I must be thinking different than some of you. I never played previous versions of Final Fantasy, but played this in the Beta, at which time it actually WORKED! Complete with queues! Imagine. I have played video games and MMOs for years, including many launches, but have not dealt with a company that makes things worse from Beta to release. Nor with one which fired a bunch of people in North American offices shortly before launch. It to me is summing up the shortsightedness of Square Enix if they start cutting staff BEFORE release. A company that hasn't figured in the fact that people need to be able to log in to keep them in money is going to be in bad shape, and one that hasn't figured out about AFK timers mustn't have had developers who actually played other games before, and learned from the experience. When this game is accessible it is enjoyable. The frustration of the inaccessibility on my only 4 day weekend this year is hard to reimburse. Ok, yes, there will be other weekends, all of which are spoken for. And by the time I actually am allowed to play my friends will have hit end game (many are 50 already), and I am shut out of playing with them. I do not want to play on Japanese servers, which are the only ones the company has made accessible. I don't think I have known error numbers (read 1017, 2002, etc.) with any other game I have played. At the very least they should assign more than one very overworked flunky to work on the log in servers, the queue process (which, amazingly, works on Japanese servers), and the growing dissatisfaction. Although it's well and good for us to gripe on the forums, I find it amazing that when in game submitting a complaint, no one answers -- they redirect to forums (which they don't respond to). Worst launch and absolutely WORST customer service I have ever seen in a game. Anyone considering buying it should reconsider.

I just have to say that even though I admire your optimism during this frustrating period, I don't really agree. For one they did have a way of knowing how many people would be playing at launch. 1. All the players participating in the betas 2. All the good reviews they were getting from said players 3. All the pre-orders they recieved before launching. In my opinion yes it is somewhat understandable that there are issues at launch, however the frustration of players is spawning out of the way SE is handling the issue. First of all it almost seems like they aren't taking it seriously. I mean they have shut down the servers to character creation so now hundreds of people that payed money for the game can't even play with one toon, and then they come out and say "Oh we are sorry for what is happening,so in order to make you all happy we are 'considering' extending the free trial period by '7 days'".... cont...

Really!? Most of us have only had an opportunity to play for maybe 5 hours in total since early access, and then you have players that haven't played at all. We don't want your bull apologies SE I want you to fix the issue and actually make us fans actually feel like you care about us when you address an issue this big. Because despite what some of you may think, this is a BIG issue. Most of us feel like we are getting screwed because we forked over money to play and haven't gotten that opportunity at all.

ha ha! This post is basically trying to tell people:

"You are wrong for getting upset that you can not attain the service that you have already paid for."

So you are waiting for the bus... you wait a long time... like 2 hours. There may be some alternatives to get you to your destination but you REALLY wanna take this bus specifically. The bus finally gets here, the door opens and you go inside and put your money into the machine. AFTER you paid, the bus driver tells you "Thanks, but you have to wait before you can ride on this bus."

Naturally, you're a bit upset. Suddenly, all the people that were already on the bus riding tell you "Hey, you need to chill out. Driving a bus is not easy and you just need to be patient." Some of the other people that were waiting outside with you agree with these people and some are just as upset as you.

I understand your and everyone else's frustration, but coming from someone who has had to deal with servers and such, it's very complicated and all you CAN say is "sorry for the service." If you were in SE's shoes, would you spend more time apologizing to customers by writing long apologies to people, (who btw don't care and just want to play) or work tirelessly to get equipment working. I'm not fully 100% sticking up for them btw. -cont.-

They stated the numbers from Beta were much less than who are playing now. Most of the beta was closed to public and only open for those who applied and were lucky enough to get picked until the final phase which opened to all. The pre-order sales don't actually indicate how many people are playing. I just picked up a copy for PS3 while my PC version is coming in the mail.

I feel like I'm rambling but yeah. It all comes down to being patient. We can /cry and /anger all we want but it will be fixed when it's fixed. I was pissed this morning, seeing as I've waited for over 3 years to play, but I got off for a bit and played with my dog and made dinner for my wife and I and said I'll come back to it. /cheer^^

Yeah, I am getting tired of all the cry baby's, but that seems typical American, no offense or anything but yeah, I've been able to play fine since official launch, guess I am lucky, but there's more to life than a game, plus its a long weekend for most enjoy it with friends and go out, or play another game, if you have a PC you have no excuse to play another game :-P or if you have a PS3 play some call of duty or something :-) ... they should start a cry baby thread lol
