I'd give SE shit, but it looks like there's enough people doing that. I will agree that this is currently the best MMO on the market imo. I've played them all pretty much. Just a shame they expected it to flop and didn't prepare.
Great to hear, I'll keep checking this thread until Wed/Thurs to see whats up. Hope we can really build a community on the new server.

First off, I'll start by saying that I was a beta tester, continued to EA and experienced the multiple errors during that week. Now, I'm locked out of my account due to registering my key to a new service account. After hours of trying to get some decent customer support Thurs-Sat, I've basically given up on trying to get anything out of SE other than my key in one or two weeks.

    However, here's an idea-

IF SE does indeed create some new worlds / servers, I'd like to start new and on a fresh start with my 30 days on them. Why? Well, I loved the feeling of 'being in the race' of moving towards end-game content. That's why many of us invested in E/A. Personally, I was a crafter and was LOVING the markets and competing with some other serious crafters to put out HQ items. I would contact every player who bought my item to tell them that I would slot their equip, craft them new HQ items, etc. and it was fantastic- my server really felt like there was a community.

Now that it really seems like we're not going to get any service for NA players until next week, perhaps even Thursday, I was wondering if there are any other players who would join me on the potential new server.

This is simply an idea, not a complaint or a pity monologue. Just post here and we can either organize a FS or perhaps an FC if you guys / gals are really on board.

I do love the idea, but saying that, my problem is I'm not this sentimental in real life (believe me!) but when I play RPG's I play them very sentimentally.

The problem for me is I've made my three characters, one in each town, for each grand company, for each server group and for each Discipline of the land etc etc, the classes and jobs and skills will be doled out according to their personalities as I see fit.
Creating a new one would be like having a 4th unwanted child (lol, if you'll excuse the rather extreme metaphor). For the moment, and up until "End game" I don't want any new characters, I just want to get back to my experience of the game as I plan to play it.
I have my Lalafell Mage, my main guy, on the EU servers who'll do all the magic, he might fish and be a gold smith,
My Roegadyn warrior on the NA server who'll be most of the tank and warrior classes, and probably cook and mine.
And my Kick ass Hyur girl on the Japanese server who will be an archer and Lancer, kinda Freya meets Fran, except human and unassuming.
I'm currently deciding wither or not she or my Roedagyn'll get to be pugilist, wither or not the Roedagyn will be both fisher man and miner, and my Mage will not have any discipline of the land, and wither my mage or my Hyur girl gets to be the alchemist.

There is one or two jobs I fear won't suit my characters, but I'm perfectly willing to wait a bit to explore them, in time to come Yoshi-P and the team may implement expansions of new towns, new classes etc, and when I feel there is enough holes that need plugging I'll create a new character that suits the classes and jobs I've thus far not experienced.

One idea for the Bard job was to create a little lalafell version of Nobuo Uematsu going around playing song's 'n' stuff (lol)
but then I figured that was a little too two dimensional and novel.

?? Make ONE character, focus on it, learn your main then second pursuits, THEN go into all the other things. This is NOT an mmo like World of Warcraft where you're FORCED to make alts if you want more than two professions. What you've already done is tripled the number of characters created. The only reason to maybe make an alt is if half your friends are on one world, and half are on another. Or maybe if you want to make a hermit character on some world where nobody knows you for those days when you really just want to play alone without all your pals asking to 'come over and do this with us'. If everybody who bought FFXIV had only made ONE character and stuck with it, then #1 - they'd probably already be many levels higher, and #2, the servers maybe wouldn't be bogged down with players rushing from continent to continent switching worlds just because one takes longer to log into (because players on the OTHER continent had rushed over to it 12 hours ago when their own servers were bogged down.) Picture the cartoon where all the passengers on a cruise ship rush to see something on one side of the ship, cause it to list over that way, and then they rush to the other side of the ship and cause it to list the other way. If everyone would just quit rocking the boat, the server loads might possibly settle down to something manageable. As it is, I imagine the server loads presently look like a giant tsunami circling the globe in a 24 hour wave pattern. Does nobody else see this is likely what is happening? Calm down, quit spamming alts into new worlds. If you can't log in here, wait a few hours and either go read a book or play your now-neglected toons in your previous MMORPG. Or just chill and find the FFVIX beginners guide and research tricky things like discovering how you're going to get guild rep to learn to ride, or which two classes you need to learn first to make your toon the most awesome it can be. For my Thaumaturge to become a Black Mage, I discovered I need to choose Archery as the next path at some point. Glad I found that out while I was still only level 15. For riding, I'm still not sure what I need, but I've started doing all the levequests I'd been ignoring and also now the guildquests as soon as I can. I'm still being defeated by one particular instanced quest that I have to do alone where 'echo gives me' some extra power. I keep getting killed, but each time I return, I'm doing a little better than the previous. There are 4 npcs and now I can kill the first 3 and almost kill the 4th before I die, but I think next time I might finally know how to use my sleep spell more effectively. Meanwhile, logging in requires about the same persistence. I've died on that quest about 6 times now and have to keep running back from Camp Drybone, but am I going to give up and make a new class toon on another server? No. Logging in, sometimes I get messages that it can't list the worlds on my continent. I try later and get the list, but the world is full. I try later and get the list, the world is full, but also a queue with a number of players waiting in it. At that point I get excited because I'm almost in. Repeating the login long enough, the queue empties and I get in. Then I will attack that troublesome quest I have with the same persistence. Once I'm IN the game, it plays just fine! One player, one avatar, and this game would probably be just flying along already without waiting for server upgrades. Now, Im sure, someone will protest "But I'm only logged in with one toon, so I'm still only a load of 1!" Really? Then stay on your own continent and stick with your MAIN avatar and never login with the others to bog down those servers. And to the idiots logged into a foreign continent server, please quit griping about seeing strange languages in the chat window! Those people are probably 10 times as annoyed watching English scroll up their chats in the JP servers. Just learn to use the chat filters so you only see your friends or party's chatter. You're griping in chat is just making pointless noise and annoying other players (both foreign and English speaking.)
By the way, yes, I came to the forums and killed some time waiting for my next login attempt by making this post. LOL! Enjoy the game when you can get in. When you can't, just do some real life stuff for a while and try again later. Quit making extra avatars you'll only later abandon or be distracted by.

...you're missing the reason of this entire thread. If you're not going to bother reading the topic and the point of the thread, then don't post here while you're waiting to login.

p.s. the bulk of your argument about making one character and sticking to it makes no sense considering the majority of people pissed at SE are upset that they can't login to their main character. Auron's multiple characters was just because he likes to actually give them more substance in his own head & he's perfectly entitled to do that. Instead of telling what other people should be doing, perhaps you should actually read things like you suggest doing while you're waiting to login.

Sorry - I should have quoted Aurongroove's comment "The problem for me is I've made my three characters, one in each town, for each grand company, for each server group and for each Discipline of the land etc etc, the classes and jobs and skills will be doled out according to their personalities as I see fit.

... that I was replying to.

Whee! Since last week (or the week before?) all my login problems have been resolved! Only rarely now do I even see a small number in queue and even then, my next try gets me logged in. Now that it takes less time to log in, than to run to the kitchen for a snack, I will not be afk ever again. Also, I think I'll go ahead and delete my one alt on the JP servers, since the NA-EU servers are now all working well.

Regarding AFK though, I see in patch notes they added a fix "-An auto-logout feature has been introduced wherein characters that are inactive for 30 minutes will be automatically logged out of the game.", but that will not be enough!! Tonight I got a whisper from a RMT spammer (which I of course reported), but then I saw "Tay Tay" the spammer in the lobby at New Gridania and watched her for a while. OBVIOUSLY under control of bot software, she stood there for a minute or so, then ran over to a position about 15 feet left, then stood there about a minute and ran back to the first spot, then back, etc, etc, etc. Mindless enough, but with the once a minute character movement, the level 1 Miqo'te named Tay Tay will be spamming whispers of a well known gil selling site until SE gets my report (or someone else's) and bans that account. 30 minute timeout is generous enough though for normal players. Heck, I could run to McDonald's and back in less time, but would not leave my character logged in anyway, now that the server logins are working so well.

On the bright side, at least we finally have an acceptable game worth waiting to login to.
