Once you multi-class, does it matter which you started with?

Past determining what class you'll have for the first 10 levels and what city you'll be in for the first 15, does it matter after that which class you started as? Are there any advantages to having your starting class remain your main class?

So far I don't see any real differences, but I'd also like to know from perhaps a more experienced (higher level) player.

I've gotten to 30 and gotten my first job as a White Mage. The only things I think it changes is they may mention it during quests.

From what my friend says, your starting class doesn't matter. Your starting city gets mentioned but is otherwise unimportant. I asked this same question since if it made any difference, I'd concentrate on doing everything I can in that city, but I don't think it matters

yep, it doesn't matter
the story will be the same
except later after you join a GC it will have slight differences (like how they will address you, who will come to aid you, etc)
