Dragoon ability "Jump". Is it useful in combat.

Except for pulling, is it worth using in the middle of combat? Seems like you still get hit during its animation, it doesnt shrug off hate/enmity and the 200potency doesn´t really fill up for the long attack animation it has:S

    Am I missing something here?

It's useful for making you regret having to give up straight shot/raging strikes to become a Dragoon. It gets better at 45 though when you get the ability that increases jump damage. Until 45 I used it to get an extra hit on something that is using a red indicator attack I had to move out of, though that still requires timing because it seems that you will get hit if you land right as the animation finishes.

None of the jumps are on the GCD so you can get one off in between your GCD rotation abilities, I'd rather have a 200p attack than just 1 auto attack in that time frame. it's not something I use every time it's off CD but I use it when I feel it's safe enough to use, usualy when the +50% jump damage is up.

They also don't use TP so if you start to run low you can supplement your dmg that way and build your TP back up if you don't have invigorate off CD.

Personally, I'm using it when I have to wait for the global cooldown (as some of you mentioned earlier) which is good in itself; but I think that an even more strategical way would be to use it on another enemy one of your party members are targeting. It's not enough damage to raise that much of threat, so you won't pull the enemy towards you and won't end up tragically dying, but it's STILL some damage. We are DPSs (or whatever the plural is), and our job is to deal damage. So what do we do when we have to wait for our damage-dealing skills to cooldown? Yes, you guessed it. Do MOAR damage. If in the process you also help a not-so-nearby party member, you can even say "You are fucking welcome" at the end of it. Then when you'll have the Surge ability to boost the damage...just think: Blood for blood + Power surge + Life surge + Jump. Deadly.

Jump needs a 100% evasion buff for its Entire Animation, that alone would make Jump a great offensive/defensive ability.

It just needs to make you non-targetable like it did in FFXI. That way you can use it to evade moves, like you've been able to in all the other FF games. That was one of the cool things about Dragoon, being able to dodge mortal blows with Jump/High Jump. Not like the idea is game breaking, since you can just walk out of AEs anyway. Not sure why it wasnt like that in the first place, because i totally was expecting it to be.

I agree jump should have some evasive trait added to you, I shouldn't get hit by a ground AOE if i'm in the air. As far as combat jump can be pretty useful for a burst damage rotation. I Normally Heavy thrust > Chaos thrust rotation > power surge/life surge/blood for blood/internal release > jump(800-1000 dmg)/dragonfire (500-700) followed by another heavy thrust >full thrust chain (another 800-1200 dmg or so before blood for blood runs out) Im new to drg just got it to 50 but jump is really nice buffed up and like others said its a good filler instead of an auto attack. and its not on the global CD which is awesome.

You smash your jumps inbetween your Thrust Rotation. That's how you use them.
