Lack of national origin or content.

Excuse me if this has been discussed before, but it's something I'd hopefully like to see addressed in some manner.

You know, I can't help but think about the lack of national origin and content in FFXIV. I understand the desire to allow players to choose whichever nation they please without thought of the extra loot received by choosing correct race/nation combos(IE:FFXI), but it feels less, for a lack of a better word "proud".

I don't feel as though the cities are proud, or alive. I feel as though they are not really brought together as a people in any way, shape or form. They are more of "set random npc race in random location". That then makes the city feel like Guildleve hub with random npcs to fill it out. More to the point, the player has zero connection to their capital. Also cheapened is the choosing of another nation that is not the one from which your race is from.

On a related note more allegiance driven content, such as is present in FFXI would add vast amounts of life into the world. Remember that rewards of value are the sure fired way to keep players coming back and defending that outpost or conquering that zone for your nation. That in turn will give FFXIV more of a heartbeat, and would be one nice content addition to fill that "I'm bored, need something to do" niche, as well.

As of today, the top two games, in my opinion, that have done this best are FFXI, as well as WoW. Though I believe that neither have really hit the pinnacle of what this continually cycling content could be, they have a good start.

I completely agree. No matter how much I try(/tried), I can't get attached to the world, and even less the individual cities. None of them has ever felt like 'home' like San d'Oria did after less than a week of playing. Like you said, there's no feeling that they're proud or alive, there's no feeling of unity. I rather think quite a few Gridanians are detesting their home. That's...sad.

Well each starting city has it's own storyline and as far as Limsa is concerned there are a lot of loose ends by the end of it and it will have to address those at some point. Whether we're pulled back to our home nation or if the story stays as it is and sends everyone to deal with them, we'll see what they do.

We're not sure how Grand Companies work, they probably won't be nation specific though as you can do the side-quests related to them for each city.

Well, Arcell that isn't exactly what my concern was. From what I can see, and what I personally feel, there are a nice chunk of players out there that want national allegiance.

What I mean by "national allegiance", as I touched on in my original post, is the feeling that your national capital is alive, unified, is the home land of a certain race and related content. Speaking more directly I mean that this mesh of all races from all capitals cheapens said capitals and lore. In turn if national related content (which definately should be implemented, for reasons detailed in the original post) were to be released, how many players would be doing it for their nation to be on top versus how many would be mindlessly grinding the event to get it done?

Ultimately this is an issue with immersion but also opens the door to give all of Eorzea a heartbeat with medium sized recycling content (IE: Campaign/Conquest) Give us a place for our Hyur, our Elezen or Lalafell to call home, a real home.
