Sorry to break it to you Kilta, but there were a LOT of rare items in FFXI. And yes, there is a such thing as rare items in MMOs. It's foolish to think not. There are bad MMOs where it's easy to get even the great equipment, but those MMOs don't represent the whole. Is it possible for everyone to get rare items? Yes. Does everyone have them? No. And no, I was not just using it in the context that you assumed. I was also referring to what Zenaku was talking about as well.

Should NMs be accessible? Yes. Should they be as ridiculously accessible as they are now? No. Though I don't mind that the current mid-level NMs are that way... since they are mid-level. Though I do think they should make all spawns a minimum of 10 minute pop and adjust the drop rate accordingly. Right now it's just silly that we kill the same "rare and unique" monster every 3-5 minutes over and over. There's nothing unique about the mob, since it spawns faster than the normal versions around it.

I'm also in favor of lottery NMs. Just not quite as long as they were in FFXI. Perhaps have windows of between 15-30 minutes (1 hour at most) before they enter into the lottery. It would be the exact same thing as now, but you'd be killing the normal version of the NM along with the NM itself (with increased drop rates to compensate). And when that NM spawns, you'd actually get the adrenaline going.
