The carpet bombing of login attempts against 1017 is crashing the login servers. They then reset(probably on auto now) and promptly crash again. I also have some belief that they are implementing a lock to your IP against so many login attempts per hour. For the last 3 hours now I've gotten no more than 150 login attempts before the game started spitting other errors at me 10102, 2002, unable to update servers, I come back an hour later and no issues again until another 150 or so attempts pass.

I remember the last time I was truly excited about a Final Fantasy launch before XIV:ARR. It was 1999, I was soon to be 10 years old and had managed to complete FFVII in no less than 200 hours (haha!). When I got home from school that November on my birthday, I had my grubby little hands on the game I had been salivating over for months, teased by the hype and previews in various Playstation magazines. I popped in the first disc of Final Fantasy VIII to my trusty Playstation and proceeded to complete the game over the next couple of months. Not once did I get a 1017 error.

Sometimes I wonder if we've taken a step backwards with video games.
