    Ferry Ride- Ocean water glitch

    Hello!

    Me and a friend rode the ferry from Limsa to Thanalan, it took place at night in the game. On the moonlit side of the water, there was a graphic glitch. The game artists at my school call this "z fighting", but I'm not sure what else to call it.. strange pixelation on the water plane..?

    My friend was using a separate internet source, and saw the glitch too.

    This is our first time seeing the glitch, most other times the water is perfectly fine!

    Is the water having clipping issues? (A large chunk of it is black if you view it in a certain way?) What video card do you have, myself, as well as a few others with Radeons have this issue.

    My video card is a Nvidia GeForce 9600M GT.. It's probly not the best graphic card. My friend also uses the same card, and she saw the glitch too. And yes, clipping issues is a good way to put it!!

    I use a NVidia GTX580, and I see the same glitch you describe.

    I have not heard of anyone NOT seeing this glitch.

    Also, the water seems to be moving while the ship is stationary, instead of the ship moving through the water, it just does not look right.

    It's so strange, I never used to see the glitch...But yes the ship staying completely still is a bit "off". Maybe if they added some mini islands that pass the ship, or add some rocking motion to it then it'd be better?

    It looks like the ship and a block of water are one piece, animated to appear as if it's moving through the water, and that single piece is just moving through the actual water; which actually is going in the opposite direction.

    Was it really too hard to animate a ship moving through real water in FFXIV? Some proprietary engine.. Wasn't FFXI done properly? If it wasn't, it was still a hellova lot better than the sequel, which should be improved over the original.


    I'd still take actual object/landscape shadows in the game and reduced LOD display over this boat issue any day. In fact, I ride the boat maybe a few times a month because it's just a complete waste of time.
