Here's my issue. I can't play the game because my RL friends and all the people we know in another community are playing on a high population server that's been locked out of character creation. Sitting up all hours of the night and morning refreshing the server list has done nothing.

If I create a character on another server and level him up just so that I can play, when server transfers happen, would I realistically be able to transfer him to the high population server? No. The transfer page mentions that some servers might be unavailable due to high population. Okay, can I expect a big group of players who are getting established (or already are) while I'm not playing and have made friends on a particular server to move? No. If a transfer would get me to where I need to go, would I want to pay for it? No. I shouldn't have to pay to solve a problem SE caused at launch.

The other course of action is to keep refreshing the server list at odd times in hopes that the server will become available. This hasn't worked since I bought the game. The only thing I have to look forward to is the update mentioned today in which they're making the servers better; this was the exact same thing said about the Tues./Wed. maintenance which did not alleviate my character creation problems, so there's no guarantee there. What do I hold out for? The AFK kick timer update? According to posters on here, they sometimes can join the server I'm wanting to get on with absolutely no queue, so apparently it's just manually locked, so I have no guarantee that kicking AFK people is going to help.

So my options are to play without my friends and not likely ever play with them or sit around wasting my time not playing with my friends. In either case, the game's useless to me right now. Also, I still haven't had the 7 days applied to my account and no comment on whether that's going to be resolved or not. So I'm literally watching my first month's game time tick down with nothing to show for it.

This is an extremely delicate process. Having people play musical servers so fast could be devastating. NORMALLY, I'd completely agree, but this isn't GW2, where server and overflow were the top priority at launch. We've all seen how weak Square's servers are. I have a feeling people transferring all around the place would be like jumping on a trampoline... made of glass. Carefully think about it. People on my server (Cactuar) have SO MANY FRIENDS that want to play. Cactuar character creation has been down for us for almost a week now. My server would be a clown car. I think a good way of doing it would be to allow characters from strangled, overpopulated servers the chance to transfer to smaller ones first for free and then open free transfer services after. Just my opinion, though.

On a side note, they should have allowed transfers from overpopulated servers eons ago. That, and launched with a disconnection system for the massive amounts of AFKs. It's coming soon, but seriously, why the hell not launch with it? xD I wish you luck getting in. I currently have a friend that can't join me for the same reason. :/

My daughter wanted to play FFXIV (transitioning from the now failing World of Warcraft MMO), after I told her she wouldn't be able to get on the server I was playing and good luck logging in, she decided to for go the pain. SE is shooting itself in the face. By the way, i'm on a Japan server because after 10AM EST I can log in as Japan is going to bed.

I'll certainly sign this. Their population management was a downright joke. This shouldn't even require being requested really. Had the issue not caused massive and unavoidable funneling to particular servers, it would be a different story. People are barred from playing with their friends because people at SE dropped the ball? Hopefully SE has the insight to at least provide this.

I agree 100%. I got 3 family members and 2 friends to join me in Eorzea, unfortunately they had no choice but to play on other servers. I'm on Hyperion (the server that never ever ever opens for new characters) and they gave up waiting and made characters on 2 other servers. Preferably I'd like to move over to their server as its a new server and its not as terribly crowded like Hyperion. I do love this game, but the launch was downright horrible. Never did I imagine not being able to play the game with my friends when I suggested they purchase the game.

Add another signature in favor of a free transfer.

2¢: Even if I can't get into the server where the majority of my friends are now we can just all move to another server that will accept all of us. It's called "cohesion" people. Get some.

I agree with (1) free transfer for everyone that had to deal with 1017 issue as well server crap outs during that time.... Only way to play was to jump into emptier server or you are stuck waiting until they unlock it, have about 7-8 co-workers about 2 friends in Gilgamesh server atm i honestly don't think i should be punished and restart my character progression when they had the dang realm locked forever... Those that disagree may it be your opinion but honestly this is a gimme due to all issues they've caused to all their customers.

You do realize that this isn't the issue, right? Some of us were forced to play on different servers than our friends or even our own region. I was forced on to a JP server simply because the NA/EU servers were full. I had played for numerous hours before realizing I was put into a JP server as there was no warning or sign that my character was placed on a JP server.

*edit: Personally me and my friends, that's 8 of us total, are spread across 3 worlds, 4 on Pheonix, 3 on Behemoth, 1 Shiva. SO now, who switches where, what happens to the FC we raised to rank 4 almost 5 on pheonix, can we move this work too? We're a closed friends FC and questing seems to be the most efficient way to raise the rank. Now that most of us are 40-45 what happens of this progress?...Being able to transfer is kind of the tip of the iceberg. Should we all move to a new server and maybe lose the progress made on our FC, that's 8 Transfer. Should they all move to us on Pheonix which doesn't seem super overloaded atm but is there going to be enough place for everyone there...? Can't wait for official words about this.
