I am aware of that, Personally my XIV is the same resolution as my desktop. But I'd love to be able to switch resolutions on the fly like I can in many games. I play a 1280x720 resolution mainly for my web browsing as going any higher makes the internet anoying as hell.
But I would love to crank up my resolution in XIV for more screen-space.
It's really annoying not being able to play in full screen for me. It's either I play in windowed mode and have the ability to surf the internet during down times mid-game, or I play in full screen stare at the screen and draw on paper during down times.
I'm not good at drawing and I'm almost out of ink.

They alway have the same answer it going to take time they would not have this issue if they allow it from day 1 of open beta. I don't understand how FFXIV does not have this i can deal with FFXI but FFXIV? sadly it seem matter what SE does to ffxiv it's going to take 1hour once the ps3 is release to even get a good working game if this is how slow it take to do something. I understand they have lot's in there hands and such but really it's company hire more ppl from your company and make more team. FFXIV would make you lot's of money try and hire more in your company like FFXI team there doing update ya but the game is done and dieing it's not a lot of work, working on a very old and done game.

True Full screen is pretty much a requirement for multi GPU builds (ok sometimes it works WITHOUT but this is a 20% chance), and not to mention a game running in full screen has better performance than windowed: even if it's covering your screen size (fake full screen), Windows DOES redraw windows behind it.
The issue is that their DirectX implementation fails, and loses the "state" of the process when Alt-tabbing while in full screen mode.
Why this is an issue, will never be known as SE are the only ones capable of such retarded bugs.
I use this too and i've never had a problem with it. It is great because it feels like I am playing full screen, but at the same time I can minimize the game to look at the lodestone, vent server, forums, etc.
Can you confirm whether or not the use of programs like AutoHotkey or ShiftWindow will be allowed to create a full screen borderless window until it is officially implemented?
On my setup (Dual ATI 5750's) its very noticeable, I can play full screen at 1920x1080 just fine with details cranked up pretty high with multiple anti-aliasing. Windowed mode I have to drop down to 1680x1050 and further reduce detail and aliasing settings, and I still chug quite a bit. In tandem these cards were good performance per dollar when I bought them but individually they are not great.I don't know how this change ranks among the devs (I won't assume), but if it is not a very time intensive change, should really be a high priority item. Removing the borders in windowed mode would as good to me.
To those running a dual GPU set up, how much performance difference are you seeing between windowed and full screen modes? I don't recall seeing any benches for it recently, just curious.
Thats good to hear, I wish they would implement this ASAP, its really a MAJOR inconvenience for us with dual graphics cards, especially considering the amount of information that you have to pull from outside the game to effectively play it. At least it sounds like they are not going to continually ignore the issue.

Interestingly, direct x 10 and beyond don't suffer from this problem.

I use autohotkey to make a borderless then i can alt-tab i set ffxiv to my screen Res and make a autohotkey in my res then press crlt alt F to load it on ffxiv it works great. Can you confirm whether or not the use of programs like AutoHotkey or ShiftWindow will be allowed to create a full screen borderless window until it is officially implemented?
Problem is we want a full screen because it give us more FPS even if you use that you still in windower mode so you not getting that great FPS you would have in Real full screen mode.
Here the file and everything you may need for this.

This is the source code of script that Zenaku mentioned
You need to edit the value on WinMove line to match your screen resolution^+a::
WinSet, Style, -0xC00000,a ; remove the titlebar and border(s)
WinMove, a, , 0, 0, 1680, 1050 ; move the window to 0,0 and resize it to 1680x1050
return
You'll need autohotkey program to run this script http://www.autohotkey.com/download/
Here's the step
install autohotkey
The easy way is open your notepad
copy the script I quoted and edit value to match your screen res.
save as yourfilename.ahk
run the script by double click
when FFXIV window start ( after SE logo ) you can press ctrl+shift+a to move it to psudo-full screen and no problem with alt-tab or lost lower border anymore.
Anyway.... I'm kind of disappoint that this script released since beta... almost 7 months ago.
And SE still don't take action on this issue
Btw, even with this script, if your window 7 go to login screen you still get some directx error and exit the game.
I know there's lot of issue to take care of.
But every minor things that SE neglect is like they are lag of good senior programmer to guide junior...
