Alt-tab from fullscreen

we need to be allowed to alt-tab from fullscreen in game. I know that the reason for not allowing this feature in xi was so the experiance ingame was the same across all platforms, however it was one reason people used 3rd pt apps. This argument is however invalid because we can play the game in windowed mode.

It would be nice if a community rep could suggest this, and maybe tell us why this standard feature was disabled.

It's not there because it's a scary thing for Japanese programmers.

But in all seriousness, I imagine this will -eventually- be addressed, but considering the current state of the game I would doubt it to be a priority. In the meantime, I would suggest downloading a program called "ShiftWindow" that'll allow you to place the game in full screen, while being in windowed mode & allowing you to alt-tab.

In some point, that if you are using a second monitor, usually TV, you wont be able to hook on to ShiftWindow.

I use two monitors, one being technically a "TV" and have not encountered any issues. You just have to use ShiftWindow to distinguish which monitor you want to use fullscreen on.

I don't believe its something they "don't" want you to do so they haven't made it an option, I think it has more to do with the actual game engine itself. Since when you alt-tab right now you crash the game, also, when in windowed mode if you launch your task manager or other programs which take over the display for a moment it will also crash FFXIV (in windowed mode) so right now I believe its a limitation of the game engine and its relationship with your video drivers. I could be wrong but that's what i'm seeing.

Yes I wish they would add this feature, there is really not enough reasons not to have it. So many times you can hit alt by accident and boot you off game which is insane

lol i have 2 problems, one is my natural instict to hit alt-tab, second is i have some quick launch keys down the left side of my keyboard, if i hit one it pulls a program ontop of other windows, which causes the game to crash.

Alt-tab would be nice if possible. The game looks great in full-screen but I don't often play it that way because I like to be able to make and check my notes on notepad and chat on skype.

i see. Is weird some are unable to shiftwindow it. either auto or manually.

This is something I've been thinking about. I wonder if it's something they're even able to do.
