    Brayflox’s Longstop Boss Strategy

    Aiatar Strategy

Aiatar has three abilities to watch out for:
“Frontal Line Breath” – This is a hard hitting skill that damages all targets in a line. While the AoE isn’t huge, the time given to dodge it is very small. If you haven’t bound strafe on your keyboard – now is the time.

Poison Spit – Targets a random party member and shoots a poison ball at it. Because of this skill it’s highly recommended that the party spread a bit. The ball poisons and damages it’s target, and leaves a pool of poison on the ground.

Poison Pool – As long as Aiatar remains standing on a poison pool, Aiatar will regenerate HP very quickly. Your first priority is to have your tank drag him out of there.

Tanky Tip: Be quick on your feet! Get Aiatar off the poison ASAP! Strafe sideways out of the breath attack! You can also disrupt the breath attack by stunning him

Yeah this dungeon seems to be hard on the tank I "ran" it 27 times now yet and each time the party did not have a tank and I can't seem to queue in from scratch no matter how long I stay queue in they seem to leave constantly its a little frustrating I am all for a challenge but when you never get a chance to even run the dungeon because no tanks seem to want to do it... perhaps they need to lay off the difficulty for tanks on this dungeon so we can actually move ahead with the story line I have been trap here a week now o.O

Mechanically it isn't hard. The problem with the dragon is that it's hard to tell when it is and isn't on the poison patches that heal it.

The other problem is that it has a stacking poison that as of my last attempt can't really be removed by the healer (granted, I had a SCH healing the group, and they don't get Leeches until lv40), which means controlling damage taken by the tank is a little harder (or it may be the fight is designed with this in mind and I'm just too used to "boss puts debuff on tank, healer has to remove it ASAP").

Lastly, there's the issue of the poison patches. They remain on the ground for so long that during my first run I thought it was some fancy mechanic that required the poison patches being cleared off by getting the dragon to breathe on them. Then it turned out that the patches just linger for a long time, which doesn't help much when taking the first problem into account.

    * The sad thing is that FFXIV turned RDM into a turret, and people think that's what it's supposed to be. It's supposed to combine sword and magic into something more, not spend the bulk of gameplay spamming spells and jump into melee for only 3 GCDs before scurrying back to the back line like good little casters.
    * Design ideas:

The problem with the dragon is that it's hard to tell when it is and isn't on the poison patches that heal it.
Aiatar isn't directly healed by the pools, he gains a buff from them, it's this buff that heals him, easy to see if it's up or not, also his HP bar going in the direction you don't want it to.
Positioning Aiatar near the edge and having everyone else near the edges of the room or standing next to the poison pools while spread out a little helps to control placement, leaving the tank with plenty of manoeuvring room.
Also as a tank I've found it easier to stand inside Aiatars targeting ring, near his left front foot, can run through him to avoid poison breath.

The best place for a tank to be during this boss is as far into a corner as possible. That way, when a pool does target the tank, the center of the pool will be located in the corner of the room thus cutting out a large part of pool itself and not to mention it would be quite difficult to get the dragon to sit in the corner even if you tried.

Make sure you get your the other members of the party to position themselves near the center of the room and nowhere along the walls.

After that, it's best for the tank to position the dragon further along the wall with the tank's back facing the wall.

    Rinse and repeat.

This dungeon's boss it 100% reliant on the tank. If the tank is bad you will fail. I have had tanks that out right refused to move out of breath attacks and refused to move him out of his own poison even after we explained the whole fight prior to doing it and they agreed.

Cleared the fight first time. Even killed the boss with me dying as the tank

Just drag him around the edge of the room when puddles spawn. An easy way to tell, is the have the selection circle of the boss out of the puddle, he wont heal.

Only issue I've found with this is ping issues with me getting hit by the dragon breath attack when Im a few feet to the side of the boss...but thats another issue

and another problem might make the tank's day worse is when he try to position the boss or move him the dps continue attacking which will make the loss aggro "enmity"

so it's better to stop dps till the tank in the right position

and save limit break for the healer in case he runs out of mp to heal the tank
