That definitely was "a magic spell" - Zelda and Dragon "Warrior" certainly didn't have ingame maps back then!

All the RPGs were better back then.. You weren't limited. You raced to get the canoe as fast as you could. Get the airship so you can scramble over and get the rat tail just to "grow up" then go over to any dungeons you could to grab end game weapons just to go back to the beginning and annihilate all the fiends

I like the quote from FFII (I think that was FFIV in Japan? I dont remember). The fiend of fire when you use Edge's fire spell on him and he says, "Was it flame? I will show you how." Reminds me of all your base are belong to us.

Gitana: I figured you cared about the series if you were here, frustrated, trying to play! I can't play either, and boy howdy does it suck. I've got all my old cartridges nearby in a box myself. Maybe share a name you've thought of!

Acrimonia: YES, and thinking out in my head "Alright, I have this many casts of FIR2 and I need to be able to get LICH down before he NUKEs me. How many can I spare on the way down to B5?" I absolutely refused back then, and still do, to allow my characters to die - hard reset if they did. Suffice it to say, Lich was the biggest problem in that game for me. Temple of Chaos? Yes, I sat in battle against one weak enemy, using the Heal staff to fill myself back up, so I could save my 99 HEAL potions for Kraken and Tiamat's floors.

Gitana: Every time, I got the Airship before I faced down KARY. The prospect of 5 floors of lava (including going up and down through them!) AFTER a long-ass canoe ride just seemed too dangerous! And once I managed to class change at Lv11 - but never on the original cart, the chances for screwups were just too high.
