    [ Weapons ]

    While understanding that a single weapon type is core for the class/job system within FFXIV, I can't help but feel that only being able to use one weapon type for the entirety of my character's career is quite restricting, and I wonder if others feel the same?

    It's true that I may switch to a different weapon by switching classes completely, however I believe most players will have a main class which they will identify and stick with. And I truly feel that limiting only a single weapon type for then entire game, makes it a quite one dimensional.

    I believe a well integrated weapon system is a major part of any successful MMO, and while a magic class may depend on skills/knowledge thus has less need of physical weapons, a war class should be able to use a much wider range of weapons as they are dependent on these tools for their survival.

    Out of all the MMOs out there, I thing it's fair to say that almost none of them has a single weapon type restriction. In fact I'd venture to say that it's a minority where only one weapon is allowed to be equipped. I really hope that SE will consider and improve the weapon system by perhaps allowing players to have more than one weapon choice per class as well as more than one equipped with an option to switch. This will definitely enhance our play experience and add more dynamic and uniqueness to the play-style and role of participation with our Avatars.

    As a Conjurer I can use a Staff, or a Wand and Shield. Thaums use Rods, and a Mace and Shield. Where it fits classes use extra weapons.

    I wonder, are you factoring Gladiators can use Swords,daggers?
    Conj can use Staffs and wands
    Thau can use Rods and clubs

    Given time and new job classes (considering the game kinda just released)
    they will most likely add more

    This. The game just came out and is using what we have as a foundation for future classes and jobs. I'm sure they'll get around to rapiers, greatswords, whips, guns and so on.

    * The sad thing is that FFXIV turned RDM into a turret, and people think that's what it's supposed to be. It's supposed to combine sword and magic into something more, not spend the bulk of gameplay spamming spells and jump into melee for only 3 GCDs before scurrying back to the back line like good little casters.

    I both agree and disagree. I strongly enjoy variety in my choices from weapons to armor sets. However variation in weapons would largely be a cosmetic change in the game. You don't really rely on auto-attack the way you would in other MMOs so decisions like picking a faster striking, higher DPS weapon or a slower striking but higher base damage weapon aren't as critical. In most respects you'll be sticking with high damage weapons so your various skills deal maximum damage where weapon delay isn't a factor.

    Still, I really do miss the weapon system from FFXI where I could use one of many different weapons on a single class. You weren't always effective with them, but you could still opt to use them if you really wanted. In the end, I don't see weapon variations hitting the game except to introduce new jobs and classes.
