I want to start off by saying that this is in no way a rant or me complaining about the many issues that the game is having. I have actually been able to play the game for several hours and I have enjoyed my time playing. So in that, congratulations on creating an enjoyable game.
Obviously, there are many different teams that work on different aspects of the game. What I'm seeing is that a few of those teams really went into this blindly while others hit it out of the park. What I'm referring to are the following things.
- Multiple different error messages all stemming from a world being full.
- World capacity being very small for such an anticipated game.
- No login queue, just a message stating that it is full.
- Account link processes that are not user-friendly.
Now let's break these down and talk about them a little more.
Multiple different error messages all stemming from a world being full - This one is pretty self-explanatory. The world is full, that's the problem. Why are there so many different errors that happen because of the world being full? Server issues for sure, from "world is full" to "cannot retrieve characters" to "world list doesn't work" and even the start button being grayed out. This isn't an error that should have made it to the release of this game, but it's understandable.
World capacity being very small for such an anticipated game - On the complete opposite side of the spectrum, this is just plain idiocy. I question how in the world(very small worlds if we're talking about your game), this happened. As a company you quite obviously maintain documentation to determine the profits you have made off the game, including the amount of pre-orders this game had. So based on those pre-orders alone it should have been easily interpreted that you needed more world capacity. Whenever a company goes into an endeavor such as this, they should be aiming for the stars. They should be assuming their game is going to be the biggest one on the market and that they need servers/worlds to accommodate that. This goes to show that you thought very little of your own game's popularity, which is not good. On top of that, this is an issue many other MMOs have had. You guys did not even need to do your research to see that this would be a problem.
No login queue, just a message stating it is full - Again, I feel like there is some idiocy going on when I think about this one. Who was the genius that thought it would be awesome if you make it send a message saying "The world is full. Life comes at you fast bro, get a helmet." and then kicking players back to the start screen?
Account link processes that are not user friendly - I watched the little animated video that explains why downloading/installing this game is a simple process and anyone can do it. The video was super cute, so many feels. However, the actual process for registering your account and the word simple should never be used together. I recall having to make like 3-4 different accounts for 3-4 different processes in order to get everything done. I have the same username for the support system, the Square Enix website, the Final Fantasy website, the Square Enix customer support system, and then the game itself. Too bad they all have different passwords cause we have to register a new account for each of these. Creating one account should suffice for all of these systems. I fortunately figured everything out, but there are many players who are having issues with this.
Look guys, I think you have a wonderful game and I am sure that your customer support and development/technical teams are working their behinds off to run damage control and fix these issues. Just work with me here and smarten up. I would prefer if you guys don't run this game into the ground like EA has done SWTOR. Look at where multiple other MMOs have failed and make sure you don't end up having the same problems. You're getting dangerously close to that unprecedented failed Diablo 3 launch. Anyway, that's all I have. Best of luck with the game and I look forward to playing it when it works.
