PS3 With Keyboard

I'm pretty sure this has a very simple answer, but I can't figure it out, so I have to ask.

I play FF on a ps3 and everything is fine...got used to the controls after some time. However, I also have a keyboard and mouse attached to my ps3. I use them for communication mostly, but would like to know if it's possible to play with them entirely and discard the ps3 controller?

I'm able to do basic tasks such a typing in chat, and targeting with the keyboard tab and F# (function) keys. The problem is that I cannot figure out how to actually use the skills in my crossbars, or how to move my character (as it just starts typing in the chat window, instead of actual moving my character).

If there is a solution to this that I am missing I'd greatly appreciate any help, since I'm primarily a PC gamer and used to K+M controlls. Thanks

There is a toggle in your menu to go strictly K/M. I've never done it because I like the controller, but I know it's there. There is also an explanation of using keys for moving and such.

I dont think you can go PC controls on the PS3 in FFXIV my brother owns the PS3 version and couldnt see the switch in his options that appears in the PC options.

If you can great, but we could not see anything we did briefly look though so may have missed it.

Yes and no. It appears it should work like a PC, but the system just doesn't work.

Exactly what I am experiencing, in phase 3 beta you were able to press these Action Bar Shortcuts and they would work but in phase 4 they do not work and release they do not work. I am not sure what is wrong here. I also went about doing the same workaround that you have explained but when I press heavy shot it cast and opens my map at the same time because it is bound to square. I just want to be able to play this game on my PlayStation 3 using keyboard/mouse and use the Action Bar Shortcuts on my keyboard. As of right now I am unable to do so so I am resulting in clicking everything or use the gamepad which I am not to fond of.

you can easily use the keyboard and mouse instead of the controller simply by changing the input actions in the option menu for what controls what. For instance instead of having the controller move your character you can set it up so your mouse (while clicking a button on it) can move your character instead. With a little patience and experimenting im sure you can make a set up that best suits you for the keyboard and mouse.

i remember seeing an option before to use keyboard for playing in Keybind option

and i managed to use keyboard and mouse for playing but i dont know how to change to hotbar to PC

Thanks for the replies guys. I won't be back home until tomorrow so I will try some of the suggestions and instructions from the linked websites and personal tips that were provided, once I'm able to. Fingers crossed something works! If not I can get by with the ps3 controls...but I would really like to play with a keyboard and mouse, so thanks a lot for the help.

You can use the Mouse and Keyboard on PS3 in similar way as on PC with 2 limitations though:

1. There is no PC style hotbar(s) available, only PS3 crossbar
2. There is no Mouse + Keyboard / Controller "flip" swicht in the character settings screen

You also would need to toggle off in the setting the direct chat option to be able to use keyboard for the character movement. To type in the chat you'd then need to always first press enter however you'll gain a benefit of Strafe Left / Right via Q and E buttons.
