Strange Shadows

I think this fits perfectly into this category because on various FFXIV related forums like ZAM or FFXIV Core i saw people having the same issue as me (but strangely not all of them...)

But to the point... please look at this screen-shoots, especially I'm talking about shadows, you see those weird lines? What are they?











I noticed this problem on two graphic cards Galaxy GeForce 8600GT OC Edition and GTS 450 GDRR5 (1GB) ((I have that GTS 450 now))

I assume that devs will need some info about my system or something so please post what you need and i will add that info (^ ^)

hmm but still, i doubt it's an issue with my PC since lots of people have this issue so it must be

a) something in game
or
b) something with nvidia drivers and stuff... but considering that i saw people with ATI cards having the exact same thing i doubt this option so the only one is
a) Something with a game

and that would fall into bug related category since it's client issue -> Waiting for Fix on this.

You could call it a bug.. it's a problem with the way character shadowing interacts with certain combination of graphics settings. It's more obvious while playing at low resolution. But everyone experiences it, whether they want to admit it or not.

Turn off Character Shadows from your in-game config, and the weird shadows disappear.

Exactly, and that's why i though it's a bug since user pretty much can't do anything with it by himself D:

Hell No! I was playing for 2 months when I've started and on old GPU without shadows, the game looks much more better with them, the character appear like they are attached to the ground, and the lightning effects and colors are more proper. Sorry but i don't want to play without Shadows (T T)

I've been dealing with this shadow issue too ever since I can remember. It seemed more apparent after I upgraded my video card from a 9600GT to a 5770, but that may only be because I'm running higher settings now.

I've attempted all kinds of graphics setting changes both in the config and in the ATi control panel and have not been able to smooth them out. It's a shame too.. in Evangelus screen shot, the character details are so fantastic right down to the color variations in the eyes and yet they're overshadowed by choppy, odd looking ummm.. shadows >.>

I used notice this along my character's back all the time. Drove me nuts running around Ul'dah. I ended up turning on 16X AA and putting shadows to max and they smoothed out noticeably. I never get shadows like that anymore. Of course, this probably isn't a realistic solution for most people. X.x

I'm using nVidia GTS 450 and have this issue too

very upset that they don't admit it as bug

there's nothing to do with our PC or settings, it's the game client issue
