Ya a timer for how long you've been away from your character is what we need but it must not be too short or too long since too short may cut people out when something urgent happens but it would not take too long to cover under 1 hour (such as when mother nature calls and gives you a really bad one) since some of the afkers may be in a dungeon run and need to leave for a short time and not too long since most of the AFKers are performing task that takes up more than 1 hour.
@Zaptruder
Considering you main is a tank currently you obviously don't know how long a DD has to wait to join a party for Group content. Most of the time I have to wait 1 hour or more just to get into a group in higher level content. I already had to wait 2 hours once due to how low populated the content before hitting lvl 50 lacks groups due to high level of DD players and low level of healers and tanks. Then there the 1 to 2 hours needed to complete the higher level group contents.

Why are you trying to push SE to put more restrictions into NA/EU servers? If you are looking for a MMO to play for a long period of time, all you can do is wait or find a different MMO if you can't. They aren't going to charge us anytime soon.
As soon as people started to want afk timers on, I knew it was a matter of time before someone would recommend this dumbass idea. I disagree with afk timers, but I think OP is a freaking idiot for even making this thread. There should be NO forced logout at all, for any given situation. And before you rebuttle with 'your prolly one of the people who afk for hours' your assumption would be incorrect, I only afk for an hour at a time at most, since I'm playing on my PS3 I do not like to stress out my system, so I turn it off every few hours anyway and it only ever takes me 10-20 minutes to log back in, even during peak hours of play.
No, what this game needs is an afk buster until they get their act together with the servers. When your character is inactive for an hour or more you should get a message, "Your character has been inactive for quite some time, are you still adventuring in Eorzea?" There should then be a countdown or 30-60 seconds to give you a chance to verify you are logged in. If you cannot you should be logged out and unable to login for two hours afterwards.
That is a truly awful idea.
When the world was young, the Sun bestowed upon me his crown; always will I light your darkest hour.
Oh god wednesday can't come soon enough.
I swear with each passing hour, threads about this get more and more outrageous
Yeah it would be nice if SqEx made an AFK time out so those who sit online all night long not allowing anyone else on could get on. But the timer for people to play isn't fair for those who actually are playing the game and doing content compared to the 2k AFKers in main cities or other Sanctuaries just taking the resting bonus and keeping otehrs offline.
I would say that this is a troll post, but I just cant tell troll from non-troll anymore e-e...
