Unable to find Direct X

I keep receiving this error when I log into FFXIV. I can create a character, but once I attempt to play, it locks up and says "Unable to find Direct X". I am playing on a HP ELitebook 8540p with a 1GB Nvidia NVS 5100M. I've tried the remove driver, install newest driver, and nothing works.

Any help would be thankful.

It might seem like a very silly question... but have you installed DirectX? Updating your graphics card's drivers is all well and good, but without DX itself..

And, if yes, is it up to date? One thing to try might be going to the DirectX website and downloading/installing the most recent version.

I have the same problem... but it's hit or miss but I usually can't play longer than 15-20min. then BAM unable to find directX device. I have had this problem ever since I purchased the game back in Feburary. I have 3 OS installs and two Video Cards to test with and all meet the requirements for FFXIV. I have tried XP,Vista32/64, and windows7. All Fresh installs nothing else is installed on these OS's except for the game,drivers,etc. It happens on all three installs. though XP seems more stable than the other two. The direct is up to date on all three. I even installed the directX which is on the installation disc. I have put everything to it's lowest settings and still get the error, the only thing I can muster is that both my video cards are ATI, but other people have had success with both my models.

I'm getting fed up and am ready to just kick the game to the curb. I have exhausted every TS method I can think of, and SE is not helping as their support page is a ghost town...
