Click Start and hangs on loading screen (PC)

I know there are a number of login issues right now but this one seems different. I have been playing since Open Beta with no problem (save the queue issue). However, I registered with the launch code yesterday and tried to log in today. Before the main menu comes up it asks me to calibrate my controller (don't remember it ever asking me for that before) even though I do not have one. So I click cancel and the main menu is missing the opening cinematic option. After you click yes, the usual black loading screen comes up with the circle on the bottom right but it just hangs there forever. I have already tried re-installing. Any thing else I should try?

Open the config file FFXIV.cfg under documents/my games/FINAL FANTASY XIV - A Realm Reborn with notepad and change the value of CutsceneMovieOpening to 1, rather than 0. Save, restart the game and you should be good. You won't have the intro cinematic, but what else isn't broken eh?

I've tried everything, including this and I get a black screen after hitting "Start" on the main menu and I can't reach Character select screen.
