Thread: Instant Dungeon

I do not know. There is something about questing into an actual dungeon, fighting against mobs specific to that story event, to get to a final boss and pulling it off in the nick of time that cannot be captured in a 'THE MONSTERS ARE ATTACKING' smash fest that Behests are currently.

I want an experience and story (two things SE is very good at) that I can share with my friends and a feeling of adventure and world impact. Behests are dungeons doesn't really cut it for me.

Its the generation brought up on WOW, LOTR and other similar MMOs Vs Ragnarok, FFXI, Everquest.

Lets face it us old gens just like a challenge and a some feeling of achievement

the new gens wantr content content content and gear gear gear !! - its a reflection of the change in societal values, could u seriously imagine life without constant internet access on your phone or the brand new app from the I store.

    Its sad but true.

Im an old gen, I like my grind and my community and banding together for random made up quests like lets try and take down a lvl 80 creature or lets run lvl 1 through a high level area. nope theres no gear reward or dungeon bit of kit or money. its simply a good laugh with your linkshell.

the reason this game may fail is because the new generation doesnt want to play with other people they want to be better then other people.

    Just my thoughts

THIS! Exactly! "/agree" all the way.

Been an MMO player since Asheron's Call, so I don't want to be called a "new gen" or "casual"--these are dichotomies elitists invent in order to make themselves feel special. Like many of these kinds of distinctions, it's also an illusion. It's also often used as an excuse to defend old design philosophies just because of nostalgia, instead of what would actually be good for the majority of players, the developers, and the game.

Strictly yes or no, I would say I'm for cross-server groups for dungeons, because I remember waiting for hours on end for a single xp party in FFXI, then feeling pressured to stay for 4-6-8+ hours in the party because the time waiting had to be justified somehow, and it was rude to leave without a replacement that often wasn't forthcoming.

Still, as was mentioned earlier in the thread, a level sync option would also greatly reduce wait times without some of the problems that cross-server groups have. Although I don't know what you guys were talking about with people ninja-ing and acting much more rude after it was implemented in other games (these people will do this regardless, a game with a large enough server population to be healthy also has one large enough to screw people and still prosper), if you find some really good group members you generally can't party with them again after that first party ends. That's more problematic to me than any imagined increase in people acting like jerks.

Level sync's not perfect though. Even after it was introduced into FFXI, I still had a hell of a time finding parties at lower levels that didn't match up with the super high xp zones. Why not have both, so you can help your friends with lower level content while people who don't have time to spend hours assembling a party can still have some fun with a group ingame?

As for open world versus instanced...well, I agree there needs to be open world content to make the game feel alive. That's why I don't care all taht much for games like Guild Wars or Vindictus, it feels like you're just exploring a connected series of rooms. However, with open world content you introduce things like NM spawn camping, which is the most boring experience in existence to most people, and fighting over XP camps. I'm all for stuff like behest, campaign or public quests where strangers work together to overcome a great threat, but it has to be carefully balanced so that people exploiting don't ruin it for the people trying to have fun.

The reasons why cross-server instances are not "fun" and not good for the community have been covered very well in the last 12 pages. I agree with what others have said. Mostly it's about complete lack of accountability and complete lack of communication and participation.

    Your turn.

So if SE does implement a dungeon finder what will your stance change too?

"This shouldn't be a lobby game."
    "I quit."

    Or

"I have been running dungeons nonstop all day! I have met several awesome people already and had a great time, this is so much better then everyone standing around a crystal all day doing nothing!"

Remember their will always be the optional
"It doesn't really matter too me as i play with friends and LS mates but when no one i know is online it is cool that i can just craft while waiting for the dungeon to start."

People miss the point of what an MMO should be if they want the game world to be an entrance lobby to the "real content". Why don't we all just go and play GW1?

Good point, and i personally agree. especially in FFXIV where a seamless world was what players were promised.

With that said, times are changing and this game is going to change in big ways along with it. Many of those changes rely on the community excepting that "what an MMO should be" no longer means what it used to.

Its all what you want to do, sir. Keep on making statements that are quickly turning into lies or get with the times and enjoy what it brings.

It is AOK in my book to want what you want but "should" and "shouldn't" will never outweigh "what is".

Yeah, people basically want to turn MMO's into FPS/D2/lobby games, then I quit MMos all together ^-^

"I have been running dungeons nonstop all day! I have met several awesome people already and had a great time, this is so much better then everyone standing around a crystal all day doing nothing!"
Yeah I sure hope I run dungeons with awesome people I'll NEVER SEE AGAIN IN MY ENTIRE LIFE and be unable to talk to or group with again, wow what a great adventure that would be!...

No, just no. I can run "dungeons" and level and do everything in the game(i partied to 50 on my archer) and make tons of friends on the way, friends I'll be able to play with again, talk to again. Real friendships. Not being able to make friends in a MMO is a real killer for me, sorry but I'll instantly quit over a dungeon finder if it's cross server. Hell, a in-server one is dumb too, unless it also allows me to make my own parties and people can see it on the list..oh wait isn't that what we currently have? lol

I never "sit around all day at a crystal", maybe you should stop being anti-social/a loner and make friends/your own party? I'm pretty sure people are just too anti-social in this game then complain when they can't find parties or people to play with, so devs have to cater to these anti-social rejects with derp derp automated grouping, yay?

You are totally right. How could i have been so ignorant in thinking SE would/can implement cross server friends lists and chat, maybe even tools to que up with them.

It doesn't matter what i do. The fact is, what i have described is happening right now, in game, as i type this. You are %100 correct that the game would be more fun if everyone talked and grouped up. We are %100 correct that they don't.

If they implement this and you quit because you cannot stand sharing a game world with people that play differently(worse) then you then, honestly, that sucks. Good community members shouldn't be forced to leave. Unfortunately, sometimes they are.

And i understand why you are so angry(you might not be but i felt you were from your post). But overall, game players have trouble finding things to do without tools to feed them the content. So SE will most likely do what they can to "cater to these anti-social rejects with derp derp," whether the current community likes it or not.

Thanks for reading, was a bit long winded.

I don't care if I can still talk to them, I won't see them in the world. If they add cross server friend lists/queueing, then I'm still playing a lobby game, a FPS, D2, etc, and not a MMO. How boring.

Not knowing ANYONE on your server in WOW is a horrible feeling. In vanilla I knew almost everyone, even their alts. In WOTLK I pretty much didn't know who anyone was at all, because of dungeon finder, cross server bgs, cross server arenas, faction changes, server transfers(3 day cd really?) name changes, etc. Might as well not be a MMORPG at this point.

Too bad this is what the new gen of gamers want, you know, that gen who plays FPS on their consoles(LOL), and other retarded things.
