I rip the axe from the head Covered in blood and brains Leave the body lying dead Ready to strike again
My sword cuts through clothes and skin Like a hot knife cuts through snow I smile as the bastard screams When I twist my sword
Sword in my hand Axe on my side Valhalla awaits me Soon I will die Bear skin on my back Wolf jaw on my head Valhalla awaits me When I'm dead
Viking Job Please!
Yeah, this Tech Demo probably took them years to make.

Truth is they were twisting words, just like they always do. Remaking FFVII and making it able to play on the ps3 would probably take 40 years. But they made FFXIV in 2 years and they're telling me it would take 40 years to remake FFVII? Please... (Taking in for account that most people say the first 3 years were used to build engine)
I like 8 and 7 pretty equally myself.
I do think they are the best.
The major issue with FFXIV has been that it seems really incomplete, has it not? Therefore FFXIV should have had more production time, and it's not even as complex in CGI as a console game.Yeah, this Tech Demo probably took them years to make.

40 years may have been something of an exaggeration, but what real fact of basis can you say that they are lying? I believe FFXIII took five years to make, and it's world was no where near as big and complex as FFVII. Nothing from the old platform could be used, they would have to start from scratch. On top of that, a remake that would do any justice would need to add in even more content to make sure it would sell to more than just die-hard fans.
Even more so, they specifically said the old team would need to be reformed to do it, and they were scattered on other projects, at least the last time I read about it.
They're a different breed. I personally don't enjoy NARPGs as much as JRPGs (Although the only JRPGs I play are FF games) but they can be fun and engaging like MAss Effect is. I think Oblivion isn't that great but my gripes with the game are a lackluster battle system and crappy animations for 3rd person, both seem to be fixed in Skyrim which looks great - I think some NARPGs have a charm to them like Skyrim (and Oblivion) because of their massive world that's fully explorable whereas JRPGs' charm comes from their world, lore and storytelling and in the case of FF its the fact that I've gotten so accustomed to them.To be honest "Open world RPG's" like Oblivion and Fallout 3 killed the JRPG fanbase in the US. People now Expect that kind of gameplay when they hear the words RPG. which means they get upset by small hallways when playing. Nevermind the fact that even though they can get 150 hours of play time running all over the world in one of these sand boxes theres only actually about 5 hours of actual story available.
Even games like Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2 have very little story if all you do is bum rush the story mode.
Dont know myself. tbh I enjoyed 7 and 9 equally. 8 wasn't bad, dont get me wrong. Just felt like the weaker of the series on the ps1 (especially when the re-released the older titles in anthology and origins)
More like it was an embarrassing display of incompetency. If a giant company with hundreds of employees which specializes in making videogames can't remake one of *their own* videogames... well, there is clearly something wrong with it.
Making HD graphics shouldn't be more important than actually completing a story. I can't help but think they are massively out of track because of that.
40 years? It's like saying "Nowadays we can only develop games that have a tenth or a twentieth of FF7's content!"
How do they expect to make better games when they can't even put nearly the same amount of content in because of graphics?
EDIT: Since everyone is saying which FF is their favorite... mine is FF8. I loved 6, 7 and 9 as well, but the atmosphere, story and scenario of 8 were and still are the most stimulating for me.

That right there is exactly the problem. Advent Children took them 5 years to make, and it wasn't even a game. Top notch CGI is not made overnight, and takes a lot of space. Add that to world design, character design, battle design, etc.
I would imagine they are working on solutions for faster output though. It's their bread and butter afterall.
btw players saying SE have not made a good game in years that not 100% true. Just because you play 1-9 and enjoy it does not mean 10+ don't live to it's name. 10+ bring new fans to the company who enjoy FF now all they really need to do is make it so both fans like it.
I for one don't dislike any of the FF beside 9 i just don't like it vs 7 and 8. Everything else i enjoy pretty well.
