You know what SE should do? They should just remake FF I-XI and keep releasing one every year with the everything exactly the same except for better graphics. I'm sure people would buy them, I know I would.
I believe I read somewhere that if they were to try to remake FFVII properly, it would take 40 years.
Yeah, this Tech Demo probably took them years to make.

Truth is they were twisting words, just like they always do. Remaking FFVII and making it able to play on the ps3 would probably take 40 years. But they made FFXIV in 2 years and they're telling me it would take 40 years to remake FFVII? Please... (Taking in for account that most people say the first 3 years were used to build engine)
More like it was an embarrassing display of incompetency. If a giant company with hundreds of employees which specializes in making videogames can't remake one of *their own* videogames... well, there is clearly something wrong with it.
Making HD graphics shouldn't be more important than actually completing a story. I can't help but think they are massively out of track because of that.
40 years? It's like saying "Nowadays we can only develop games that have a tenth or a twentieth of FF7's content!"
How do they expect to make better games when they can't even put nearly the same amount of content in because of graphics?
EDIT: Since everyone is saying which FF is their favorite... mine is FF8. I loved 6, 7 and 9 as well, but the atmosphere, story and scenario of 8 were and still are the most stimulating for me.

That right there is exactly the problem. Advent Children took them 5 years to make, and it wasn't even a game. Top notch CGI is not made overnight, and takes a lot of space. Add that to world design, character design, battle design, etc.
I would imagine they are working on solutions for faster output though. It's their bread and butter afterall.
They said it would take a very, very long time (up to 10 or so) to remake the entirety of FFVII to PS3 standard (FFXIII graphics for example) as they don't have the original staff nor enough staff for that project.
Plus FFVII would have to be rewritten and retranslated and gamers these days hate to read, so think of all of the conversations, then slap onto how it all has to be voice acted. Plus they would have to actually extend and finish the game and even change mechanics because VII is pretty old school RPG that won't fly with today's gamers.
So it was less of a "shut up" and more "only if we REALLY want to dedicate all time and money to it", as XIV is pretty much their priority FF game atm.
Btw, FFXIII was originally a PS2 game, thus why it took so long, so it was redone at least twice but it would have taken awhile regardless, but not as long as it did take.
I would actually agree with this, since I'm one of the "SE merge killed the FF series" people, since the stories in 12/13 just seem so bland compared to the others.
btw players saying SE have not made a good game in years that not 100% true. Just because you play 1-9 and enjoy it does not mean 10+ don't live to it's name. 10+ bring new fans to the company who enjoy FF now all they really need to do is make it so both fans like it.
I for one don't dislike any of the FF beside 9 i just don't like it vs 7 and 8. Everything else i enjoy pretty well.
