let those of us who remember FF for what it used to be not have its good name tarnished by some of the crap you make these days. oh you guys gotta get back to making FF13-2, FF13 AGIATO ,FF13-VS okay have fun. lol yikes!
I've been playing Final Fantasy longer then most people have been alive. I was about 6 years old when FF1 came out and I was enthralled. I thought it was great fun going around stabbing goblins.

I've followed it and Square pretty hardcore since then. I've played numbers and numbers of their great games, and some of their not so great games.

The only FF I have ever had a problem with was FF8. Because Squall Dies.

Well not that he dies specifically I could care less about that. But more because the whole game just twisted and contorted till you couldn't understand what was happening. Then you saw pictures of Squall with no face. NO FACE.

    Haunted my dreams for weeks.

Anyway. Final Fantasy is still my favorite game series, but Nier.... Nier is my favorite game of all time.

I have to thank Square-Enix for the amazing job they have done recreating Final Fantasy XIV from Scratch. Especially the inclusion of Missing Genders which we petitioned for in good faith. This was proof to us players that the Developers are truly Sympathetic to our requests and that being honest and vocal can pay off with the amazing characters we have who are Female Roegadyn, Male Miqote, and Female Highlanders. Thank You SE, Thank You Community Team, Thank You Yoshi-P.

On it's worst day, FF title games are still better than any other game out there. Except this one, which I still like a lot.

Dont be a Fan Boy, there are plenty of RPG'S that are 100% better than any FF Tittle(Except FFVI,FFT)

Suikoden II, Xenogears, OGTLUCT, DO, ME, CT, CC, Suikoden V, Legend of Heroes(The last trilogy), Ys etc etc.

FF is a good series, but it has been in decline since they been catering to the graphic whores.

I've been thinking this for years. Graphics are great, dont get me wrong. But you can't been good old fashioned game play. Given the chance, who would be happy to re-play (or play) the first 9 titles in the series without updated graphics? I know I would. FF6 > FF13 any time

I have replayed 7 and 8 about 5 or 6 times. For a while I was alternating between them. I've replayed 10 twice. I've yet to replay 12, I don't own 9 or the earlier ones, but I would like to. I'm still working on the extras with 13. Once the story is over, I kind of lose my motivation. But I'll get it all done eventually.

That's a matter of opinion. And I've already admited I'm a shameless fan *cough* gal, somewhere else on the site.

I also think it's because of the graphics that the last games have been a little lacking, but I never blamed it on everybody. FF games have been expected to be the leading in graphics since idk when.

However, I would be perfectly content with FFVIII level graphics, and even no voice overs. I always felt that the movies were kind of like a reward in the game when you reached them, but when the whole game is nearly that quality, kinda takes away from it.

I'm not so sure a majority would agree with me though.

JRPGs are my greatest joy, and my greatest shame, in this world.

That being said, they seem to sell for crap.

I personally doubt that SE could make back half of their enormous budget; that goes into a modern FF title these days, if they released new titles structured like FF1-10.

I feel I should also add that there was a lot to love in XIII!, even for a classic squaresoft fanboy rpg'er like me, and I found all of it.

If you do crave and fancy some crazy jrpg though, I would avoid SE altogether and stick with developers like Idea Factory and Gust.

    also this

To be honest "Open world RPG's" like Oblivion and Fallout 3 killed the JRPG fanbase in the US. People now Expect that kind of gameplay when they hear the words RPG. which means they get upset by small hallways when playing. Nevermind the fact that even though they can get 150 hours of play time running all over the world in one of these sand boxes theres only actually about 5 hours of actual story available.

Even games like Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2 have very little story if all you do is bum rush the story mode.

They're a different breed. I personally don't enjoy NARPGs as much as JRPGs (Although the only JRPGs I play are FF games) but they can be fun and engaging like MAss Effect is. I think Oblivion isn't that great but my gripes with the game are a lackluster battle system and crappy animations for 3rd person, both seem to be fixed in Skyrim which looks great - I think some NARPGs have a charm to them like Skyrim (and Oblivion) because of their massive world that's fully explorable whereas JRPGs' charm comes from their world, lore and storytelling and in the case of FF its the fact that I've gotten so accustomed to them.

IMO, if there's one thing FFXIII should have put it, it would be a place to buy and rewatch the cutscenes. That was the best part of the game anyway. Though I guess that would require a town of some sort. :P
