/10charactersResolving AFK Character Issues
From several users on some of our more congested Worlds, we have received requests for a feature which automatically logs out characters who are AFK for an extended period of time. We are actively looking into the implementation of such a feature, but have decided to first concentrate our efforts on increasing the number of Worlds and optimizing the Duty Finder servers.

World increasing, ye that makes sense. But why optimizing the Duty finder service first before prioritizing the login issues. This will cause a lot of irritation and can lead to early quitting of people. We just want to play, make ingame issues better after that.
Yeah, I don't really agree with the decision to wait on the idle kick, but whatever. At least they're (apparently) working on the server issues - which I hope works, because if it doesn't, that is I will add my voice to all the people asking for an idle kick. Idle kick systems aren't infallible, but it can't hurt.

It's not that I mind people being afk, hey I am sometimes too afk to do the dishes inbetween. But it goes too far that people say they never log out. Those are the ones preventing others to play, and that's what I have trouble with.
Yes, this exactly. A few times I have left myself logged in while I change clothes, or go grab takeout from the dining hall downstairs, or even take a quick shower. It's people who leave themselves idle for hours so that they don't have to try to log back in later that is frustrating. I understand where they are coming from, but it's hardly fair to the rest of us. I'm not doing it myself both because I feel it isn't fair, and because I don't want to put that kind of stress on my laptop. My last hard drive (less than a year old) bricked just a month ago and I had to replace it, so I'm especially cautious now about leaving it on when I'm not using it.

Actually you are also doing a big favor to the planet (limited recourses anyone?) and to your electricity bill if you don't leave your PC on when you arent actually using it. As to hard drives, then I had a similar problem and the actual cause was that it was hot weather (I wasnt even home to notice that) and PC just crashed from overheating and the drives went alongside with that. Had to pay quite some $$ for new ones.
Absolutely, this too. I never intended to leave my laptop on when I wasn't using it, but according to my father I was doing it a lot without thinking, and he said that could have been the source of the damage. I think my laptop was also getting pretty hot, which is why when I got the new HD, my dad and I popped open the case and cleaned some dust out of the primary fan vent, and then I went and bought a laptop cooling deskfan thing. I run it every time I play a game that I use my nvidia gpu for. So yes, in all likelihood it could have been heat too, meaning Skyrim and FFXIVARR beta may have murdered it. The point is, I'll never be among those who leave themselves idle for hours and hours, for many reasons.
