none of these issues have anything to do with server architectures, it's all about the planning, in this case with SE it was simply poor planning. Even Yoshi admitted that, he just added on the excuses afterwards about not having conclusive numbers. In reality there is no excuse, the buck stops with whoever was in charge! That I do give credit to Yoshi, he is taking responsibility for his or their poor planning and at least is trying to rectify it. Better to be late than never

he acknowledged the issue, and yes it was poor planning. However fixing it and adding servers as well as increasing capacity does not just happens over night like we so wish it would be.

yes, that is correct it doesn't happen overnight which is why proper planning is essential to providing adequate services, which takes me back to my statement I made before. In the IT world you always plan for the worst case scenario than scale back from there. It is much easier to scale down than it is to scale up! The problem is in the MMO Genre if they do that and then have to scale down later with server merges this make them look like they failed but in reality they are just becoming more efficient but to most gamers and the general public they don't see that and see it as a failing MMO.

That is so far beyond the truth. worst case scenario would be they setup an infastructure ready to handle millions, when only thousands showed up. then they are left with dozens of useless machines, and payed out the ass for something that wont be a profitable turnover. it's easier to scale up

Well but it's not like SE is an indie company that's never ran an MMO before. . . In addition someone in SE knew exactly how many pre-orders were sold, how popular the franchise is, how many unique players were in beta, etc . . . The fact that they didn't plan for this is really more wishful thinking. In a company the size of SE, it's more likely they needed the infusion of revenue from the pre-orders (which generally aren't billed until release) to help fund infrastructure. Every major MMO has done this, but we (the gamers) just let it go if the game is good.

jeez, you do realize that coming up with a worse case scenario is based on planning and research? where in the world has there been an MMO launch that has had MILLIONS of people show up on early access or even launch day? There has been none, not even wow. So your worse case scenerios of millions at launch is based off something that has never happened before! That kind of over planning is also poor planning, I assumed that would have been obvious to most of us!
