Fetch Quests in main story are pointless

Hello FFXIV community, I'm really loving the game thus far, I'm hooked on the main story line and enjoy the dungeons and boss fights. The problem I'm having is that I literally spent close to 3 hours grinding fetch missions through the story line in order to get through it. I know nothing can be done about it now since the story and its quests are set in stone, but I would like to see the next expansions not have these ridiculous quests attached to the MAIN story board. One of the quests was literally a three step process to fill up a bucket of water 2 feet away from the NPC that gave the quest.

They flesh out the game's lore, if you actually take the time to read the text, that is. For example, the quest line in Drybone preceding the Ifrit battle relates to your character's progress in the investigation of suspicious Amal'jaa activity and abductions, and your pursuit of a traitor. Sometimes this involves doing small chores for villagers to gain their trust or cooperation. For new players, this is a valuable source of experience points and gear, which is needed in order to actually get a chance at the next major battle or dungeon.

Now, if you're a v1 player with a level 50 character, and you just speed-close the quest dialogue or skip cutscenes to move ahead as quickly as possible, I can imagine these quests would seem pointless. But I could also argue you're playing the game all wrong.

I am a legacy player and I did start out with a level 50 character and I see your point, I still don't think that the type of fetch quest they use, like filling up a bucket of water, or dancing for some villagers, or poking some city steps should be part of the main story quest. There are too many ways for people to gain exp in this game so that is no excuse to add pointless steps to the quest in order to level up a character, i.e. Fates, leves, hundreds of other quests, job quests, dungeons. Why saturate the main story with pointless stuff?
