You know what. I'm sorry. I'm obviously catching you, and the rest of the forums at a bad time. It must be, because I cannot believe or understand otherwise the hostile reaction by you and most other replies to this post.

Again, this isn't about me. A lot of people seem to have knee-jerk replies here without fully reading and taking a moment to understand my concern. It's not a thread bitching, or at least it wasn't intended to. It was to raise a serious question as to why YouTube content creators are specifically being targeted in this situation.

I think though after having been thrashed by the mob here, I think I don't really care anymore anyway.

I was looking forward to seeing other YouTubers doing the same....but then I read this today....

    "Guidelines for Videos

You may not monetize your video via the YouTube partner program or any similar programs on other video sharing sites."

Well....way to shoot yourself in the foot SE. You could have for weeks and now beyond launch, tons of video makers promoting your game and helping to bring FFXIV:ARR. But instead you have a NDA that lasts till launch AND want to deny video makers monetization on videos for game footage of FFXIV:ARR?

Now I know what you're thinking "Oh this person just wants to make money on YouTube" NO! It's not even that!

I LOVE Final Fantasy XIV: ARR. My concern is how this, probably half the content that could have been made from creative video makers will now never exist because of this! And all the great free promotion that could have been made by YouTubers, that could help spread the word about how awesome ARR is with lengthy gameplay series, walkthroughs, tutorials, ect. now will hardly exist.

It's the 21st century! Are you so blind to how YouTube helps promote games in a MASSIVE way!? Minecraft is a great example of how letting creative movie makers run free can make amazing video content, make a little money on the side (which you don't have to pay for SE) and spread awareness and promote a game!

I will still make videos, but this isn't about me. It's about YOU SE and how it's the little things...the tiny little things you do are bigger than you know.

Honestly Draven, blame the lawyers. In the end, they're the ones who made this asinine decision, as lawyers are won't to do. Lawyers and SE upper management - I highly doubt the dev team has/had any say in it.

They have that clause because they want to be the ones making money off of videos, you see.

First off i not only agree 100% with the OP but it sets a dangerous precedent and it violates U.S. Fair use law

Draven, SE didn't say you can't upload videos - they're saying you can't make money on it. This is why people don't really appreciate or respect that community anymore since it's become purely about money.

So if you want to promote the game, you can, you just won't be making money on it. If you truly wanted to promote ARR do it outside of monetization.

Did I say people can't make videos? No. I quoted exactly what the issue is.

Regardless of your opinion about the YouTube video making community, the point is, ARR will not get nearly the coverage it could have gotten because of this policy in regards to monetization on YouTube. SE isn't in the business of charity and neither are most big YouTubers.

Like I said, it's free promotion that SE doesn't have to pay for, why deny them monetization? They aren't paying for any of it? But they will in a negative way now.

perhaps you do not understand what intellectual property is, or what private property rights are. or what constitutes fair use and right of parody, but that i gather only from conjecture based on your statements. this is not soviet russia governing the rules.
