No, they will play on paid accounts to make Gil so they can sell it. If SE can verify they are using unauthorized tools to cheat or if they can verify that someone has paid them real money for the Gil, then they will be banned at that point. But simply sitting in a corner and leveling up is not going to get their accounts banned.

luckily if we're paying subscription, they will probably be able to afford small amounts of actual in game policing.

It would be cool seeing a mod using a brass blade or similar as an Avatar and if you report bots just show up and beat the shit out of them.

It would be both RPG and real world justice.

Saw a different type of mine botting in Central Thanalan. Low lvl node with not much on it so pretty sure it was farming lightning shards.

Char name was H'zhet Tia.

Completely nude besides the pickaxe. Would just appear near a mining node out of nowhere, jump once or twice (later I worked out it needed to as sometimes when it appeared it wasn't standing on the ground), mined, then disappeared. No teleport or return graphic, no running between nodes. Just appear, mine, disappear. Wasn't appearing and disappearing due to d/c - if that were the case it would appear/disappear in the same spot, which was not the case.

And yes, reported it in-game via support desk -> report cheating

Samw at Cerberus they spam all time, they wisper alltime.. Really annoying. I think all these botteters create the problem because they work with situation like AFK and SE as i understand cant do nothing about it.
