Totally agree with an afk timer (15-20min). It blocks all other players who want to play and a timer would give a smother rotation and less login problems. I saw a lot of players who stand hours on the same spot and it was just in an area of 4 maps.
Afk timer for a much better rotation, that would be great.

Now I've been just as frustrated as everyone else, but while it should be a standard feature I don't think booting idle players is going to as big a difference as people think. For one, the majority of 'idlers' are probably doing so during the non-peak hours when you can actually play, so they have a spot on the server to play the peak hours. During which it kind of depends on whether there's more idle players vs people trying to log in, which I'm thinking heavily leans towards the latter. Furthermore if the servers are melting under a heavy load then an idle player is going to leave a much smaller footprint on it than an active player, especially if they're chilling in an inn room. If the servers are under strain you're not going to be able to swap inactive for actives on a 1:1 ratio.

In my opinion what's really needed is proper queue system... which is in place but I thought I read even that's been under stress? Actively Pushing a button until it finally lets you on,not knowing if it will take 2 minutes or 2 hours, is absolutely the worst way to do it. Even if you log in and the queue is massive, as long as it keeps counting down you know you'll be on eventually and can do something else in the meantime. If this was in place those jerks would also probably feel less inclined to stay idles for hours to not lose their spots.

I somewhat agree with RandV about a new queue system but I don't about it being peak hours only when people are just logged in. My friend has stayed on for 17hours without being kicked off and I'm struggling to get on without even a queue. I've only actually came to these forums for this one reason, it's so frustrating...

Kicking idle players is a must I kno players in my linkshell and Free Company that haven't signed out in 4 days there is no reason for that. So SE please if you want to control the congestion this is your answer its a standard in all MMORPGs kick them out. They're not playing so they shouldn't care they're just wasting space someone come use. Faerie is flooded with ilde players and goldspammers and my blacklist have about 4 of them. So in closing please kick idle players so i can get on my game.

First i want to say: I'm totally on this band wagon. I believe this is something that should be in the game. Afk timers are somewhat standards in mmos, and that's probably why we feel so incised when looking at idle players. (Ignoring that fact that we know there gonna get to play when they want and we aren't of course :P)
Hopefully i dont get smacked for triple posting 1000 characters is just to few for any topic I feel strongly about >_>

2nd: However is it's not gonna happen, at least not in time to do any good. Think about it, your talking about adding a new feature to that game on top of everything SE's running around trying to do right now. Sure it's a small feature, but only from are viewpoint. I'm not a programmer but it seams to me that the only way to boot AFK players is to actively check to see if there AFK. Resources that could be supporting and allowing other players playing. On top of that with the emote / macro systems in place your checker is gonna be larger than you'd like. And once you have that in place, does it even matter? As others have said how do you keep players from just running into walls in there inn rooms for hours? lots of effort for potently no gain. Even assuming they go through all the trouble of inserting it into the game by the time it gets here ether enuf of there player base will have quit in frustration, or they'll have expanded capacity to meet the demand. It's just not worth it.

3rd: Fear Not for i'm not just a nay-sayer! I have my own instantly implemented suggestion! (We'll it's my friend's suggestion but hey whatever, right? ;P ) Rolling restarts! Implementing Rolling Restarts will kick everyone from the servers, making everyone who isn't afk Re-log. No way to get around it with a macro ( yeah never say never but i'd be more than 99% could manage) and no coding required! Most MMO's schedule there restarts to happen automatically so i can't see this taking away man hours. Restarts every 4, or 6 or 8 hours would kill the idlers dead! ( love that phrasing lol). Why would you leave your toon idle if the server's just gonna kick you in X hours anyway? The only downside i see? That players who aren't afk get booted too, for however long the restart takes.
    I can live with that.

I agree with so many people afraid to log out because they might encounter 1017 and staying afk throughout the night they need a idle kick system in place whether its sever restarts every morning, or a idle kick system of 15-30+ mins of afk time;Because, they don't log out and stay over night they are what cause the 1017 error to pop if people like this would quit bogging down the servers with there idle chars we more than likely would hardly see 1017 except for maybe prime playing times.
