booting idle players

I was going to make the same suggestion, but I see that it's already been made. How about we hear from a dev why this hasn't been implemented. Note to SE: i do not want to pay for a game I can't play.

My sentiments exactly! I can understand that there are bugs being worked out in the beginning of launch but booting players who clearly have been inactive for a certain amount of time should be a logical conclution and solution for the congested servers! I certainly can deal with this for now that we have 30 days of free play but I will not put up with nor feel we have to pay for service if this issue is not fixed ASAP! Developers, please hear us out!

I agree with this when i was actually able to log on i noticed two things in towns and in fields

1> hundreds of afk players in towns and outposts

2> I'm glad to know I can't or thousands of others cant log on but sure as hell the gold sellers and a ton of bots certainly can please for the love of god deal with these people

MTE. Honestly, I'm a little surprised SE has yet to do this, given the severity of the issues they've been dealing with. They're aware that they have a congestion issue, but instead of implementing some method for lightening server load, they restrict character creation. This is a new game and there are people wanting to create characters on servers of their choice, and that option's been taken away because of server congestion and other issues, when there're players clogging the worlds who don't even play but log in simply to go AFK for several hours.

I WAS ABOUT TO POST THIS SAME IDEA!!!!
I know World of Warcraft uses 15-20 minute idle timer which works great because if you are away from a game that long then why should you be able to stay in locking up the servers...this is complete bullshit that we have to wait until off hours and even then still have a queue to wait? You go in any major city or sanctuary you see roughly 10-55 players idle and have yet to move. This limits the potential of players like my boyfriend who is on the fence if he wants to pay the sub and honestly Square Enix he is very upset with the lack of being able to get on.

This should have been the #1 solution to server issues!!!! No idle timer indourses players not to log out and just stay logged in especially since you can collect rested experience logged in.

I am going to agree to this. The fact (it has been proven) people are staying logged in when they go to work, sleep or just decide to walk away for a few hours is unfair to the other people who enjoy the game, like myself. I do not enjoy spending ten minutes to three hours pressing the A button on my controller to attempt to get in, and as it stand right now why does it even matter if you stay logged in when your clearly unable to play i.e. going to work or bed or whatever. All your doing by being that person is being a total dick to everyone else who wants to play and enjoy the game. We all bought and paid for a game we cannot even play due to the lack of people logging out. We NEED that afk kick timer. Without that even upgrading the servers is pointless cause it is still going to happen. But if there is an overall reason to stay logged in other then not being able to log in due to not having that afk timer, let me know. I hope they decide to make it happen and soon.

If a fix for this is not in near solution can you at least please restart the servers once or twice a day. Give us a fighting chance.

On another note who ever decided paying thousands of dollars to implement new servers before doing an afk timer should be fired.
What are you going to do with that hardware in a year from now when half the population is gone. I personally am only playing FFXIV until EverQuest Next is released and I will never look back. As a matter of fact if there was ANY other game released I would be playing it.

One last thing. "square enix" is the worst experience I ever had registering and logging into a game.

I agree it's free ATM and 2002 (lobby disconnect) and the more popular 1017 and I are "friends" for now. Hopefully all the bugs and perhaps the AFK timer will be implemented by the end of free period. Which BTW has been extended according to YoshiP's newest letter. If it's not I'm not paying...I've wiped all payment information (just in case )

This is the wrong attitude. You bought that "free" time when you purchased the game. I think it would be a huge injustice for Square Enix to NOT credit players for the gameplay time that they have but aren't able to use.
