I cant add my friend who is offline. Why?

I was trying to add my friend who is offline she works during the day and I work during the night. The problem is I cant add her because I tried doing a search but it says the character with that name doesn't exist. I'm sure the problem is because she is not online at the moment. I just think it should be possible to add friends who are offline too, now I can't add her.

If you can add offline friends can someone please tell me how. thanks.

I don't have an answer. Though I do have the same problem with my friends from work, we're not always on at the same time. :/

Which again makes one wonder... why. >_> Funneling gil and such to alts is kind of a bread-and-butter thing in MMOs.

I am bumping this because 2020 and I'm in a similar situation, it was in search results, and I too would like to know why.

There was a time when RMT bots started using Request to Join Party as part of their advertising. Sending party requests to anyone and everyone, with player names similar to their RMT site.

So, I'm thinking probably, if it was ever a possibility, this restriction could have, at least in part, preventing players from logging in to dozens of friend requests every day from bots.

It could also just be a backend data issue, not having countless requests sent out into the aether.
