    MRD mitigation and stat allocation

    I have seen multiple posts and people discussing stat allocation on a marauder. Since the primary role of this class is tank some people seem to be saying to go 50/50 str and vit. WHY? As most people who tank religiously in most MMO's know, mitigation is more important than threat building (unless for some reason you cannot hold aggro). Why STR/VIT 50/50 why not DEX/VIT 50/50? It looks like dex affects dodge/parry rates. Since a marauder does not utilize a shield I am assuming his main mitigation would be dodge/parry. You hardly ever see stam stacking as viable, and adding something to a tank build that increases damage output INSTEAD OF mitigation seems...asinine...So for people who actually know what I'm talking about - what is the ideal stat allocation for a MRD as a tank?

    There's no evidence/number for the ideal stat allocation. There're just assumptions and individual ideas of what works and what not. It depends on what you find working or value. I'm allocating 25/75 to str/vit since I think MRD's mitigation without a shield is abysmal and needs some STR to deal more damage and heal back which is what I think is MRD is about. Again, what you think each class is might differ from mine.

    It's really up to your playstyle and maybe the group you run with.

    STR means enemies die faster, you hold hate better, and it makes your parries more "potent".

    DEX means you parry more often.

    VIT means you have more HP (which is even more magnified due to Defiance once you get Warrior). It allows your healer more breathing room. As an FYI, keep in mind that VIT only affects HP, it doesn't do anything for reducing damage.

    Step 1: don't be 1shotable.
    Step 2: hold hate.
    Everything else is the healers problem.

    My opinion after many years of mmo playing and one lvl 15 dungeon run in xiv.

    Pretty sure this is correct. Blocking and Parrying are functionally the same, just one is with a shield and one is without. +Parry on gear also increases shield block rate, as well.

    SO does +parry affect the percentage of times you will parry the attack or the "potency" of the parry or both?

    I'm a warrior and i'm going with 10 points in vit and 20 points in str
    As with a War u get defiance which increases ur hp by 25% but lowers dmg by 25% so you already have this huge hp pool but now require some dmg.
    Str also increases the amount of dmg u parry so could help a lot with survivability, although the rate in which you parry is increased by DEX that stat is only really useful to archers/bards.

    You could mess around with DEX though could be useful to pallies to increase there block rate then have them equip a shield with High dmg block but that's might be better for end game stuff.
