PS3 settings + performance

Hey everyone,

I was just wondering if there were any particular settings in the game (or outside of the game) to improve the performance or quality while I'm playing. As it is right now I have done the minimum of turning off the effects of everyone that is not myself or the people in my party but I still find myself having some issues with loading and animations and what not.

That is to say, when I run into a zone on chocobo or what have you, it will sometimes take 10seconds for the NPCs and PCs to load on my screen. As well, sometimes when I use skills my character will stand completely still until I get through about 3/4 of a combo (three or so moves) in which he will just pick up as if nothing has happened!

I'm not to sure if there are any settings that can be adjusted on the PS3 specifically but any ideas would be great.

Same boat as you. Kind of obnoxious that the PS3 version wasn't better optimized for the console. I can't upgrade my PS3 with new hardware like I could on a PC.

It sounds like a latency (character popping/loading delay) to me. It could possibly be the servers at this time (due to the heavy congestion of players we're having right now).

Does this issue still occur during non-peak hours? If it does, then it is definitely a PS3 or ISP-related issue. You may possibly have the same problematic ISP throttling issue as other players are also noticing it.

Try at non-peak hours and see if the issue persists.

If you notice the PS3 HDD trying to load the characters/animations, then you can't do much as its a console hardware limitation. Hopefully they'll have an update this issue soon.

I work with a couple who are having the same issue with their PS3. I find this to be a rather amusing /facepalm moment, I mean did they really release this game for the console that the console itself can not handle the stress of.. lolz

Also, I'm fairly certain this is not a lag issue. I have this same problem with my PC, but on a larger scale, like waiting 30-40 secs for NPCs to appear. I had a friend in the next apartment hook into my wifi and try to play on his pc, and he was fine. His hardware is considerable newer then mine. So now i'm upgrading

The PS3 is dated technology by now, but when FFXI arrived for PS2, the system handled it pretty well. It just seems like it could be better optimized for the hardware. I wish I could get a FPS counter because I notice animations lagging quite a bit.

Who knows, could be directly related to server congestion, and/or they'll be fixing it later on with a patch.
