    New user; Program crashes immidiately

I recently purchased FFXIV and just finished the installation. I am unable to get any further at this time. Every time I try to run the program it immidiately crashes by saying the program has stopped working, and then goes on to say 'a problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.'. I have tried reinstalling and have done this with all virus protection and the like disabled. I've viewed some of the otehr threads but I don't know enough about this type of stuff to adapt other player's issues to my problem. Hopefully someone is able to help. I am looking forward to getting started!

    My specs are as follow:

This could be a graphics driver issue, but I'm not able to distinguish the date of your driver from the information you posted. Can you open the FFXIV config utility from your start menu, then hit the System Information and Copy to Clipboard, please?

You'll likely need to uninstall your video driver and CCC, run driversweeper, then re-install the latest package.

Thank you Grit. I went ahead and did the process you stated I probably would need to go through, and it fixed my issue. The driversweeper program I had never heard of.. And it never would have worked had I not used that.

Okay, I've been playing for a couple weeks now, not a problem. Suddenly, and I'm pretty sure I did nothing except allow a windows update, I'm having the same problem. I'm going to try what Grit suggested, but until I really figure out the issue I thought I'd post something here and seek out some advice. I've been reinstalling all sorts of typical junk, but nothing seems to work yet. Funny thing is I can get into the FFXIV config and all of that has changed, I can't edit fonts and a few other options disappeared.

This stuff is like a super-collider in my brain. I just built this computer and everything runs great, even FFXIV aside from my sub-par integrated video. I don't understand anything anymore. On another f'd up note, my windows update is acting fickle and won't install certain things I request of it. I use to consider myself pretty computer savvy, but I've reached my limits currently.

I'll post my specs in a sec, FFXIV thinks I don't have any display drivers of any type at all right now.

    FML.

Yeah, none of Grit's advice helped. Here's what I got. I hate wasting people's time with this . . . but we've all got questing to do, y'know?

I posted in your other thread already, but since you're mentioning having problems with windows update, you may want to download windows registry repair and see if that helps.

Skybear, one thing you can do to narrow down the issue is go to your control panel, System and Security, administrative tools, view event logs. Go to the application logs and you should see a log of the crash. The key is that it will tell you what module is causing the crash. Under my application error details it constantly would result in 'Faulting application name ffxivboot.exe. Faulting module name atiumdag.dll. It seems as many ATI users have that same problem with the atiumdag.dll and simply updating the driver has not been working, which is why the driver sweeper is needed. Check and see what module is causing the crash and it might be easier to solve the problem.
