Did you know what they were talking about when they said guild? Then shut up. Thanks.
(No..I don't call it a guild lol...)
Why do you care?
this is the same on the annoyance level as people who call there CHARACTERS toons. The reason they were called toons was in some games the players characters look like something you would see in a cartoon and the whole world was cartoony...this is far from it. Its free company, grand company, linkshells, and characters. Not a hard concept.

When other people know what you're talking about, "guild," being one syllable, is a lot easier to say/type than "free company."
Honestly, too bad. In most mmo's I've played, there weren't other names for "guild". It was always just a "guild". It's what I'm used to and I'm sure it's what many other people are used to as well. I'm not gonna type out Free Company. I could type FC, but I get annoyed by chats riddled with abbreviations all over the place.

A guild is one of the basic features of MMOs, no matter what the game calls it...
