How do Classes work?

I recently started playing as an Arcanist but was told I need to be a Conjurer to beome a White Mage

Can I change class on my character in anyway to become a main Conjurer? (Need Conjurer 30 and Arcanist 15 I believe)

Once you get to the main story line quest where you get the airship (around level 15), you can travel to other cities. Just go to the conjurer guild and talk to the guild leader. You can switch classes by changing your weapon but you will start that class from level 1.

Your character level is per class. So say you are, most commonly, 10-12 on your main class, and then you get the crafting quest, and pick up weaver. When you equip the "weapon" for weaver, a needle, your level switches to 1, because you are level one in weaving, when you re-equip your main class weapon, your level goes back to 10-12, where ever you were in that other class.

There is no global level, just what level you are in that particular class.

Thanks a ton for explaining that. I was curious about the same thing to be honest. I intentionally read nothing about this game coming into it, but it's not quite a simplistic as your run-of-the-mill MMO.

steps to change from ACN to CNJ
1 - complete main scenario quest up to lvl 15, this will unlock airship travel
2 - complete class quest up to lvl 10, this will unlock armory system
3 - fly to gridania locate CNJ guild and talk to the guild npc
4 - Get CNJ weapon, equip.. and enjoy!

Yes the Conjurer quest line and world area is very nice, and quite beautiful. I decided to keep going on my Conjurer sub class because it is so much fun but it is very nice to be able to switch classes anywhere by just changing weapons. that was an inspired idea. Simple and effective and so nice. I found some foes that were needed for the Hunt Log for my other class when i was wandering and it was great to be able to switch hats to get them without having to commute to the area back from somewhere else. Will be a lot of fun doing many classes in time.
