Lancer not able to roll "need" on lancer gear.

Yesterday I was running Thousand Maws, and a piece of armor dropped which was suitable for both Lancer and Gladiator. The item was a rare helm and it would have given me an upgrade of +8 to both physical and magic defense. However, the "need" roll button was grayed out and the gladiator who was wearing a one piece helm/chest combo specific to Gladiator/marauder won this piece. If this is working as intended why do you do this? Also if it is working as intended, what is your justification? If not this is a bug.

Sounds like the helm was meant for tanking while Lancer is decidedly DPS. Sorry friend, I think this is not a bug.

If that's the case why would the item state LNC on eligible classes? If it's a tanking only item make it exclusive to GLD/MRD..., but don't piss off people by teasing them that it's a Lancer item then make them ineligible to roll need.

Actually I had a similar problem on a neck piece in Tam Tara. The item said "all classes" but I was not able to roll need.

Currently items that are equippable by various classes but are more specifically tied to certain roles (such as +INT rings/necklaces, certain high-armor body pieces) can only be needed by the roles they are designed for. Sure they can be an upgrade for a different role, but are vital for that role in particular, hence the difference

If they were not designed for the classes marked as eligible on the piece, why have the class designated as eligible? Does anyone else see the inherent problem with this?

If this is the case then why couldn't I roll need an a necklace that dropped in one of the dungeons that was listed as all classes but had the Str stats which as a glad I should have been able to need on? Instead a thm got it... I was like WTF?

Also as a glad I have no issue with a lancer being able to Need on gear they are able to use. If a gear lists lancer in the classes that can wear that item then they should be able to need on it period. So yea.. this needs to be addressed!

In beta phase P1-P3 you could Need roll on any item that matched your class/job. This resulted in people Need-lotting things that were not intended for the class/job they were playing even if they are able to equip them.
They changed it to what's there now because of that.

Yes, some pieces can list only GLA/PLD/LNC/DRG, because those are the classes/jobs that can wear the item, but if it's intended mainly for tanks, only GLA/PLD can Need roll on it. If it's intended mainly for DPS, only LNC/DRG would be able to need lot on it instead.

In this case - since stats are clearly "tankish" item should go to tank if he needs it. I realy prefer system when you can only need stuff depending on your current class/job (if system properly recognizes which loot goes to which class), then - "ZOMG those cool glasses have +3 to inteligence MOAR then my failed helmet and will look cool on my maruder when i pick up cat chicks in capital city".
I know its not your case - since you defenetly would gain something from that item - still its ment for tank and should land in hands of one in first place - always.
Its rly best solution, cause its most possible that tank will stick with that item for a bit longer - making his/hers healers happier (and YOU do want happy healers in your parties) and you on the other hand will propably switch it very fast with any item that has better dps stats.
If something is "usable" for you it doesnt mean that its was intended for your class.
