Sorry mate, but looks like I have to spell it to you again. Taking a single line completely out of context is a very, very weak forum trick. We were obviously talking about *tanking grind mobs*. Which is quite evidently easier in FFXI than in FFXIV, and is a very, very specific topic.
Misconstruing my opinion by extremising it because you can't counter it in it's original form doesn't constitute a valid argument. Quite the contrary.

i think you purposely undermine any valid attempt at brining challenge to this game because your silver platter may be taken away from you.
LOL. I'm probably more of a "hardcore" (I prefer defining myself "core" as "hardcore" is a rather silly definition in itself) gamer than you. Differently from you, though, I'm able to understand the fact that I'm part of a small niche, and by tailoring the game over me and my niche, SE would not gain any kind of commercial success that's necessary for this game to survive.
I enjoy challenging content, but challenge is just that, a challege, and a challenge faced while actively having fun is much, much better than a waste of time to bring the *illusion* of a challenge.
Challenge = Challenge
Timesinks = Illusion of challenge for the ones that can't bear actually challenging content.

you also constantly state on how xp loss death penalties and any other risk vs. reward systems are nothing but time sinks by deliberately stripping out the challenge portion and simply focusing on the time sink element. the avoiding death is the challenge in an xp loss time sink.
Challenge? What challenge exactly? Challenge is a matter of difficulty. Not of time. If you want a challenge, you make the encounter *harder to beat*, the consequences have nothing to do with that. Timesinks are simply a placebo for lack of *actual* challenge.

the LFG time sink's challenge is making an effor to gather friends or create a successful linkshell or finding someone that can contribute to the party.
LOL. So you're advocating that standing in a chity shouting for a group and getting bored to death is *challenging* instead of spending the same time going into a dungeon and actually facing difficult content? Wow. Talk about lopsided.

the traveling time sink's challenge is reaching your destination while avoiding tough mobs along the way by planning routes and navigating the zones (certain mobs sense smell. others are blind. some sense ground movement, etc) due to xp loss for you or your traveling party.
Tell it to all the hundreds of thousands of people that want chocobos and airships. Again, the level of challenge in doing that is brain-dead minimal. You're walking around avoiding extremely predictable AI entities that follow predictable pathing. The time is much better spent (and enjoyable) actually facing challenging fights.

you think you are clever by conveniently attack the naturally occuring time sinks of an mmo by striping them of their challenge aspects. your mentality is; why travel when you should teleport, why use tactics due to xp loss when you should zerg it all to death with impunity, why LFG when you should solo everything. you are a fraud.
And you can't discuss without personally attacking people that effectively counter your arguments. There's no challenge in wasting people's time. The challenge is into making them beat/outwit/outmanouver *hard* content, which can be solo OR group oriented (there's challenge even solo, as much as you don't seem to be able to admit it).

You still didn't answer though, were you upset when they added search to the market wards (or the AH in Final Fantasy XI at that)? because you know, that's such a convenient and casual-friendly addition! It completely removes the CHALLENGE (lol) of looking for the items you need in every single bazaar.
