    Free/Grand Companies?

    It should be obvious by now that I never played 1.0 (No PC at the time). I've heard of these but have no idea how or if I should join one. Is it anything like an event linkshell?

    A Free Company is player-run, and yeah they are "event linkshells", they are your group that you do stuff with.

    Grand Companies are the armies of the 3 cities, and you join one when you get far enough in the story. It's just for story purposes.
