    [Suggestion] Color Blind Filters

This is a very important topic to me. I feel that as MMO's target all sorts of gamers a color blind mode is a must as many gamers are in fact color blind in some way or another. My wife suffers from one of the forms of color blindness and it makes it hard for her to see anything that is in a shade of red. Many people think that color blindness just means they see the colors as another color or as gray/black/white but in reality it can be a bit more severe. My wife for example can't see many shades of red at all. So when enemies names are in red, quest circles on the map are redish, and enemy area of effect attack indicators on the ground are red she has a hard time seeing them.

Now as an example, World of Warcraft has two ways to deal with color blind players. One is a color blind mode which changes some icons to letters/words. The other way it does is with shaders that add a color overlay over the screen based on the different forms of color blindness. (Continued)

These shaders are turned on and off with a macro. My wife used one when she played that made everything have a shade of yellow which to me made everything look weird but to her greens went from gray to actually green and reds became orange instead of being invisible.

Just to give another example of how annoying color blindness can be to players my wife and I once walked into a movie theater where the lighting was a dim red. To me I could see fine but she immediately complained that the theater was pitch black. She couldn't see the light at all. At the same time the red break lights on cars are painfully bright to her.

So again please add some kind of help for the many color blind players out there. It would be greatly appreciated by many in the community and make playing the game much easier (or possible) for them.

At the VERY least please add a way to change the colors of the UI (including enemy area of effect ground markers) so that color blind players can customize these types of things.

Pardon the bump on a very old thread but I didn't want to make a new thread when one already existed.

I just ran into this fairly recently with a party member in Bismark EX. We were explaining the mechanics in terms of Green/Blue to a few new players when we were informed one of them was colour blind. The entire team did a quick review of if there was setting (like WOW has) to accommodate this. We managed to work around it by using waymarks (letters), and describing the symbols for each Green/Blue debuff.

We were all quite surprised to find there wasn't and there 100% absolutely needs to be. How a colour blind mode has managed to not make it into the game in this long is beyond me.

I have noticed that in most cases, color is not the only way to differ between things, even if for most people it is the most obvious one. In that fight for example, the buffs have clearly different icon (other has sort of swirl, other has stripes) and the sanuwas have different names. In that color totem phase in wanderers palace, each of the totem has distinctive shape which can be used to identify them instead of color. (Had to tackle with that particular one myself since was running it with someone who had trouble separating the colors). While I admit some things could be done, like giving option to change certain area effect colors, I also think they actually do have color blindedness in mind when designing encounter by adding other ways to separate things by.

If you say 'pls' because it's shorter than 'please', I say 'no' because it's shorter than 'yes'.

This should be something baseline for this game.

As for the time being, SweetFX might be the best option. FFXIV example with link to shader in description.

That SweetFX Shaders seems nice enough, but then again it seems to be DirectX 9 only.
Not to mention that I don't believe it's actually allowed to use any third party modifications in the game.
So wouldn't I risk a ban when using SweetFX?

But it really would be great if they'd implemented something akin to the different color changers like in World of Warcraft, because I am one of those poor souls who has a very hard time seeing some of the things in the game.
Especially the quest indicator on the map is almost impossible to make out for me. Same goes for the aggro indicators on the enmity list. I can never tell if they are changing or not.
At the very least give us an option to change some colors ourselves, so we can adjust it.

For certain aspects such has health bars and such someone can change the colors themselves

For mechanics though there are usually ways other than color to identify them. It isnt preferable to have to deal with that, obviously, and there SHOULD be a colorblind mode but there are ways around it still until that is hopefully implemented
