NP Greywolf, it's all good. And yes, more spaced out access points is a definitely a solid idea.@AngryNixon
I seem to have misinterpreted m(_ _)m, my apologies. i've seen quite too many anti-AH posts I guess and took this to be another. It just really doesn't make any sense to me how a Market Ward would be overall any better than an Auction house. it perplexes me really.... I used to be a long time FFXI player and was hoping this would be a FFXI-2 sort of speak and was extremely disappointed with what has turned up.
PS the only arguement about the Auction houses in FFXI is that they were always too closely placed together... I mean there was always a lot of people in the area that it's kinda hard to move around in having to run into other players all the time. I've yet to see any valid arguments myself though.
I don't see why you all blame SE for making people goto "Ul'dah with the mainline quests". Unless the quest is to summon your retainer inside Ul'dah...then the choice is completely up to the player where they summon their retainer. Its not because of the mainline quest ending in Ul'dah. Its just the trade hub for XIV. Jeuno was XI. Jita is Eve online. Im sure WoW has a main AH or city or area where majority of the trading goes on. All games do it. You wouldn't have this problem if you didn't summon your retainer in Ul'dah and used a different city...why do you do it?? Because its easiest way to access goods. Its the easiest way for humans to trade goods. Its the most efficient way we can do things giving our circumstances. Simplicity. Human like to keep things simple and crowding in a main area to trade goods is easiest. If we all want to summon retainers in Ul'dah...then who cares...why can't we?
Also, your exaggerating on the hours to find a star above a retainers head...its points you to the ward, name and puts a icon above the head. easy...considering 90% of the retainers are in one city, how much more hard can it get :/

Yes, we'd have picked somewhere to congregate, and we'd have set up almost all our retainers there, no matter what. Why did we pick Uldah? Because after spending 20 anima warping around to do a quest, spending 3 more to get to another city doesn't sound appealing, especially when you know this is gonna happen again in a few levels. Heck, some people stay so low on anima that they can't teleport somewhere else, and running sounds even less fun.I don't see why you all blame SE for making people goto "Ul'dah with the mainline quests". Also, you misunderstood Martyr's comment, I believe. He was saying that the retainers are lifeless and just stand there for hours on end doing nothing but impersonating zombies.
As an aside, WoW still does the natural congregation trick, but it's not based on trade. The trade in all their capital cities are linked, via both AH and /trade channel. Biggest reason people still gather together in the same city is for partying, I'd say.

I've heard a great many people comment that the retainers impersonate zombies and seem lifeless. I for one think this is a great idea. If anything they aren't zombie like enough. I would love to have a retainer that just stands there groaning and eying your brain as you buy things from him. It might even be better if they slowly lurch towards you as you're walking through the wards with that hungry look in their eyes. Also if they looked undead (not the cheap FF version that are just black character models, that's lazy), that would be great.
Commerce is far more interesting when you have to conduct your transactions under the impending threat of being eaten by the undead.
Please SE more zombies.

wow now its the amount of anime that you all in ul'dah?!? come on...thats BS. 3 anime to teleport somewhere is next to nothing. No one is making you teleport like a maniac...why you teleport THAT much. Its also not the only way to travel. One thing I've realized is how lazy FFXIV players are. You lucky there is a free teleport system in place...your even luckier that the anime use isn't like what it used to be and even luckier that anime recharges by itself. You guys will never be pleased LOLYes, we'd have picked somewhere to congregate, and we'd have set up almost all our retainers there, no matter what. Why did we pick Uldah? I seriously haven't dropped below 50 anime since release...but anyway I don't see how being low on anime makes people goto ul'dah.
With all due respect, maybe you've never dropped below 50 anima because you have barely played the game since release. Your highest job is rank 17. It takes a couple of hours to get to that point. Other people probably have less anima because they play more. If you've barely played the game, and you've gotten down to 50 anima, then that's probably better evidence that people don't have enough anima under the current system.
And in your example, the teleport to Uldah is not just 3 anima. You have to teleport to Uldah and back. Which is 6 anima. You regenerate only 6 anima per day. Add in teleporting to at least two different camps for leves (12 anima), 3 different camps for NMs (18 anima), a couple more cities and camps for the occasional storyline/job quests, and you're quickly out of anima.
Yes, you can spend 5 hours a day running to all those places instead. But I prefer to play FFXIV for the battle/leveling. If I wanted to do a long-distance running simulator, I'd stick with QWOP.
Just a note: I'll take your next post more seriously if you manage to stop confusing a game feature for a cartoon.wow now its the amount of anime that you all in ul'dah?!? come on...thats BS. 3 anime to teleport somewhere is next to nothing. That said, it's time to respond (expect sarcasm here)! It's not "3 anime (sic)," it's 3 anima to get back to Uldah when I'm done with leves, where I just hit the rank to get my next quest. Then 3 anima to get over to Gridania, because that's the next stage of the quest. Then a lively run over to Mor Dhona, because I've never been to the next camp. Then 3 more anima to get back to Gridania, because SE knows I hate the entire Black Shroud area. And, as much as I'd love to just return to Uldah, I actually picked up a few new nodes along the way, so it's 3 more anima to get back to turn in my quest.
Mind you, that's 12 anima, assuming that I've done 0 other teleports that day. And I'm sorry, but unless I want to wait for the weekend, there's no way I can make all that running in one sitting, so, yes, I'm going to teleport. I'm also going to teleport if I have 5 minutes to get to my leve party in Nophica and I'm just now logging in in Uldah because my work schedule sucks. I might also volunteer to teleport that same party over to Broken Water, because I don't mind using my anima for LS mates.
What I do mind is being called lazy for using a game system as intended to accomplish an in-game objective, then trying to use it sparingly until next time I need it. I'm actually probably sitting at 100 anima right now, and I haven't had to walk anywhere since shortly after CE release. There are basically two options for not using anima: run everywhere or don't go anywhere. I don't have the time to run from Uldah to Gridania to Coerthas back to Gridania back to Uldah; even if I did, I don't enjoy running that much. I'd so much rather be fighting, or watching a scene play out.
As for your comment about "never be(ing) pleased," I'm actually happy with the way SE's handling the game at this point. In fact, my only major complaint about the game at the moment is ten-minute disconnects, and I think pretty much everyone agrees that those need to go.

I drop below 50 anime if i'm crafting all day doing local leves and lazy. How can I run all the time when the landscape puts me to sleep.
