That's not a good example because FF9 is a single-player offline RPG, while FFXIV is an MMORPG. The two games are entirely different genres, and you can't treat an online RPG the same as an offline one.
My only suggestions for the quest markers is to use a different marker for completed quests (preferably a question mark) than they do for available quests, and make completed quests appear on the map all the time, regardless of distance.
Other than that, the markers should stay as they are.

I like them tbh. I love when i'm running around town and randomly run into a quest. Its not a big deal they look nice and they're not intrusive on the screen, no need to be nit picky.
All I'm gonna say is there are MUCH bigger fish to fry and. . . get over it.
Agree with the "?" on a completed quest also can you please add a green tick to the quest journal when you have completed the objective.
