Assuming we ever get chocobos, how do you suppose SE should implement them?

* * *

From a purely practical standpoint, I think SE should allow us to get a chocobo as quickly as possible when starting the game. The reasons for this are manifold. Firstly, the zones are so large that people often complain of being bored when traversing them, and a chocobo would help alleviate that. In fact, the world is so large that it seems they were made with chocobo-travel in mind.

I mean, how many times have you not turned in a crafting leve simply because the trek seemed too arduous and boring?

On the other hand, getting a chocobo too quickly (i.e., receiving it on day one) raises another issue. After all, I must admit that one thing I liked about FFXI was how monumental getting your chocobo license felt way back when. It was an important milestone, so perhaps SE should include something similar in FFXIV. Perhaps they shouldn't make light of the act of bestowing upon us a chocobo but rather strive to make it important.

On that note, one thing I hated about FFXI was that you were so limited when using your chocobo. Upon release, chocobos could only be rented from very specific places, and later, only called upon for a few minutes when using a whistle. It was all very restrictive and made you ask if SE just hated the idea of its players having fun. So I think it would be nicer this time around if we could call upon our chocobo whenever we liked and have it stay with us just as long (longer than 15 minutes anyway!).

Chocobo raising and mounted-combat would also be welcome.

So in conclusion, I would like to see Chocobos given to newbies early on, and I'd also like Chocobos to be summonable whenever you wished and for as long as you wished.
