    How should they implement Chocobos?

    Assuming we ever get chocobos, how do you suppose SE should implement them?

    * * *

    From a purely practical standpoint, I think SE should allow us to get a chocobo as quickly as possible when starting the game. The reasons for this are manifold. Firstly, the zones are so large that people often complain of being bored when traversing them, and a chocobo would help alleviate that. In fact, the world is so large that it seems they were made with chocobo-travel in mind.

    I mean, how many times have you not turned in a crafting leve simply because the trek seemed too arduous and boring?

    On the other hand, getting a chocobo too quickly (i.e., receiving it on day one) raises another issue. After all, I must admit that one thing I liked about FFXI was how monumental getting your chocobo license felt way back when. It was an important milestone, so perhaps SE should include something similar in FFXIV. Perhaps they shouldn't make light of the act of bestowing upon us a chocobo but rather strive to make it important.

    On that note, one thing I hated about FFXI was that you were so limited when using your chocobo. Upon release, chocobos could only be rented from very specific places, and later, only called upon for a few minutes when using a whistle. It was all very restrictive and made you ask if SE just hated the idea of its players having fun. So I think it would be nicer this time around if we could call upon our chocobo whenever we liked and have it stay with us just as long (longer than 15 minutes anyway!).

    Chocobo raising and mounted-combat would also be welcome.

    So in conclusion, I would like to see Chocobos given to newbies early on, and I'd also like Chocobos to be summonable whenever you wished and for as long as you wished.

    Given to newbies is unlikely to happen..
    Chocobo raising.. well.. as long as if I don't play for a while it doesn't run away...

    It probably should happen though.

    Na, it should die permadeath like a tomogochi if you don't coddle it 24/7.

    Oh, there should also be Chocobo taming!

    Personally I'm hoping that when all the eggs "hatch" at the end of the current event, the blessings of the twelve or what have you will have made them all chocobo eggs. It would alleviate the issue all the Chocobo.. farms I guess, seem to have of not having enough of the birds.

    On top of what you suggested TC (although I would like a fun quest for a Chocobo license similar to FFXI but not as arduous) I would like for Chocobos to have armor and some game mechanic involved with them in combat I think would be great - but combat or otherwise, I still want them to wear armor. I would also not mind raising your own Chocobo as long as its fun, I did not enjoy the FFXI one at all, I hate when a game mechanic is built in simply for extending the time sink, they need to think of fun first and foremost and not drag something out for the sake of dragging it out. A digging mini game would be cool but give it more depth and maybe not a hidden "level" this time around. Perhaps make some dungeon depths accessible through Chocobos only (i.e., Chocobo has to leap/fly to another cliff past some gap to get to some hidden locations) Jesus just make it *fun* no matter what you do.

    Rank 10.

    The first camp is not far from the cities and perfectly reachable on foot in short time. when it comes to traversing towards the rank 10 -20 camps is when the walk becomes tedious when repeated. as it can sometimes take a good 10 minutes on occasion.
