    Repose

I'm completely new. I'm new to FFXIV, I'm new to MMOs, I'm new to healing and general MMO battle tactics, so I wondered if I could reach out for some help.

For background (so you can judge your answers by my 'skill' level): I get that I'm in the group in order to keep everyone alive, and I need to concentrate on both me and the tank predominantly. I know that spamming cures just gets me hurt (and that helps no-one) and that I'm not there to deal damage unless everyone is healthy and I don't have to worry about attracting enmity.

Then I got the Repose ability and it has changed things up. I can sleep things to deal with later. Which is good. I get that to help our DD colleagues I should tell everyone and mark the target.

I guess my question really is - when should I use this ability, and what enemy should I choose to use it on?

tl;dr - when and on whom should I use Repose?

When you solo mobs, repose can be great if you pull something you didn't want to. Now in Dungeons, that's where it can get tricky cause you have to think if that mob you targeted is resistant to sleep. If you mark a mob with the Bind sign, that lets the tank and other members in your party know that you want to sleep that said mob. Now sometimes you will get those awful tanks that doesn't care and break sleep all the time.

But the key aspect here is, it's great to have your Tank take less damage. Making it easier to maintain heals and help manage your MP. Don't leave home without is what i would say. Use it and don't be afraid to use it.

If you're in a group with a Thaumaturg, make sure you communicate with them on who is sleeping what so you don't end up sleeping the same target (and pray they actually do use sleep still; the THM I've run into now seem to have forgotten they have that spell).

In addition, when you're keeping an enemy slept, be mindful of how long the sleep lasts. Normally, it lasts 30 seconds, but each subsequent cast of Repose on the same enemy will cut the time in half. So sleeping it a second time will only last 15 seconds, then 8 or so, until it's finally no longer effective. If you need to keep an enemy asleep for a long period of time so that your other party members can deal with other enemies, make sure you're taking advantage of the full sleep duration and only casting Repose again at the last 2-3 seconds or so.

I feel your pain N'hara. I've run into that too. One outright said it was a waste of time so he took it off his hotbar. He also likes to run into the dungeon rooms ahead of my tank, and refused to assist. The poor fellow died repeatedly on our dungeon run after ignoring our requests for some teamwork. Silly wabbit. Trix are for kids.

Welcome to MMOs, Kema! I hope this will be the first of many you come to enjoy. ^_^

    - On low HP/swarm mobs, I don't bother using Repose. I just hunker down next to the tank, heal, and let the DPS/DD obliterate everything with AoEs.
    - I try to learn what the mobs do, or I'll ask the tank if I can't make it out. I typically prioritize Reposing casters, AoE'ers and heavy damage dealers to make my life easier.
    - If DPS/DD are breaking sleeping mobs frequently, I assume it's because they feel they can solo it, so I stop Reposing and ignore them. My heals ignore them too - finicky things, heals.
    - Yes you can really Repose only 3 times. I didn't realize that the time cuts in half each cast though. (Thank you, N'hara.)

Have to admit I found this 'bug' in a dungeon the other day when an arcanist ignored polite requests not to use his tank carby during the run. I felt bad for about 10 seconds. Then I felt that somehow I'd come of age as a healer. When he caught back up to us (he respawned rather than wait for my Raise) he had a blue carby in tow and I felt justified.

I find myself marking in dungeons and using Repose a ton. It really helps keep the healing needed to a minimum, which in turn means more heavy hitting Cleric Stance Stone II spam!

If the tank is using an AoE attack don't really bother.

If the tank isn't using an AoE attack and he marks the enemies, sleep all enemies except #1, if he doesn't mark, just sleep the ones he's not fighting.

I kind of like it for wandering links. I think the current macro is:

    /micon "Repose"
    /marking cross
    /ac "Repose" <t>
/p Sleeping <t> - you wake it, you keep it.

(Not logged in at the moment.) That way, it's out of my hair for a minute and makes it real clear to the rest of the party that they've a new target. (Idle: does anyone know if "/recast Repose" works?)

Each time you use enfeeble monster/boss, they build up resistance. 2nd time will have 50% resist, 3rd time 75% and 4th time = fully resist.

The build up resistance will be gone after clear of that enfeebling effect for 20 seconds. That's mean, you can sleep a monster with 30 + 15 + 7 = 42 seconds before full resist then you have to do something else for 20 secs, either water (bind) then stone (heavy 20 sec) kiting around before can sleep the same monster again.

By enfeebling effect, I mean all of 'em including sleep, heavy, stun, silence, paralyze, etc..

I just posted in the tips thread, but my favorite tactic for repose is to water blast a trash mob away from the tank/dps and repose it while it is still bound, that way they really have to go out of their way to wake it up. Really makes for some smooth trash clearing.
