Extra mobs aggroing for no reason

I just started a new character, and ever time I attack a mob, another mob also gets aggro'd and I have to fight 1v2.

I know some mobs are supposed to be linked, but this is happening with everything. The little ladybugs and rats right outside town are behaving this way. It's not always enemies of the same type either. Just anything remotely nearby will also attack me. This includes the passive higher level mobs, like the big turtles in Thanalan (as a result, I do a lot of running).

I have leveled 3 other characters, and none of them had this problem. It's happening to my husband as well, and we're both thaumaturges.

Anyone have any idea about what's going on?

Are you in a group with your hubby? My husband and I were grouped up during P4 Beta and this happened to us all the time. Even with 1 other person in a group you will get linked mobs. Just coordinate yourselves to attack the opposite mob as your partner as you can tell once highlighting the mob which other mob/mobs its linked to.

We were in a group, yes (so it partially makes sense now, thank you) but when I highlight a mob it doesn't show that they're linked like it normally would. Is it also intended that the linked mobs are completely unrelated? It sucks to pull a level 5 creature and have a level 17 tortoise come charging in. We now just completely avoid pulling anything remotely close to a high level mob because the aggro range that enemies will link is massive, and we'll end up getting two shotted :S

It links the nearest thing, yes. So watch out when fighting near super high level stuff
