It's being fixed.
I won't subscribe until this "Final Fantasy XIV: An Error Reborn" is actually playable. Never in my life have i seen such a terrible player accommodation. It's really frustrating coming from work to click "Start"->Character->Yes->Ok->repeat ad infinitum.
It's been bad, but usually after one hour clicking i can finally get in. It's been 3 hours now, i'm with my tablet in my lap, watched a whole movie and i still can't get in. When i check the forums i see people trying to find a scapegoat, saying there are nerds playing too much, there are people going AFK and blocking the rest, there are handicapped people playing all day long, you name it, but those people keep forgetting the only party at fault here is SE. There are numerous gaming sites making fun of this matter, of how they managed to make a relaunch of the game worse than the first time. I played from the first day of 1.0 and it wasn't so bad. I thought they should have learned.
I ate the "it's a launch, give 'em some credit" excuse but it's been nearly a week since the EA launch and it's not fixed yet, wtf? Are we dealing with some kind of incompetent, recently made company lead by right out of college kids or are we dealing with a 10+ year renown company with extended experience and highly qualified developers and technicians? It's a shame really, i wanted to play this game, i wanted to subscribe. I've been a long fan of the final fantasy series and this show is a shame to the title in my opinion. I've read in a gaming site (can't remember which) that SE's motto for this game is "we apologize for the inconvenience" and i totally agree.
Sorry about throwing my rants at the forums but, as they say in my hometown, i'm really trying to turn my guts into another heart to tolerate this but it's really thinning my patience.
They are Working on it and Things have gotta lots better lately. not for 1017 but from support.
They now have Sticky post up about the errors. And the Launcher has an update every few hours now even if it is the same thing over and over. it means that they are taking the time to Update the Community instead of 1 generic post then 3 days before we hear from them.
I played 1.0 Launch and it was this bad. Constant Disconnects. Server Rejection Errors. Horrible Lag. As for blaming SE yes i blame them for simple placing NA and EU in the same Datacenter. EU should have had it own servers in the EU not in Canada with the NA servers. But in the End it is the Canadian Datacenters fault for Failing to Provide the Bandwidth and Capacity that SE needed. Look at the JP servers compared to NA/EU they got hammered hard too and need capacity increases as well.
Lets face it the Game is Great! And compared to 1.0 if the only error i am getting is 1017 Server is full then Good. It means that SE has built a MMO that people REALLY wanna Play. and the fact that we are all in here complaining about it means the same.
WE WANT TO PLAY!
Things will get better soon. and then we can just enjoy the game start Paying it.

I agree with those above me... I can't get on right now cause of the error but it has gotten much better the past few days!!! =]
