    Thaumaturge needs more love

this may just be my opinion, i dont know how other THM's feel, but to me Thaumaturge is a fairly lackluster class. tbh, scourge/banish are somewhat not even usefull because they dont hit hard at all, as well as getting resisted even with very high piety. The Dot's and debuffs are the main thing that THM is good at, i agree; but that's about it. i dont really feel much like a mage when i play THM, the animations arent very spectacular. heck the animations of the lower level spells from ffxi are even better than the ones mages in ffxiv currently have :\.

i do hope the change in stats will make mages stronger, since they're the weakest of the DD( compared to archer, marauder, lancer and pugilist, Thaumaturge is fairly weak)

and hopefully more gear will be released for THM...we are very gimped with a lvl44 club.

post in this thread if you have an idea of what could be changed/added to THM.

    oh and inb4 "Solo Dodore"

LMAO! I was going to so bring up solo dodore but after thinking about it dodore is not that big of a deal. I do agree that scourge and banish suck for solo play. However, they are quite strong. Probably not as strong as the Conj nukes. However, the debuff from scourge/banish makes it worth while.

i never notice much of a difference with the debuff. the debuff rarely gets on the nm's, so its mainly a waste of mp casting scourge 2 just to deal 50 dmg. better off standing there casting poison 2//bio 2/dia2 and every debuff I.E. the Absorbs and Slow/Para.

Actually thm wins over conjurer in very much aspect :X we have lots of love. But debuffing skills need to be more effective, they last too low and effect is sometime very little

Debuffing skills like Paralize and Blind are good, but they have to adjust effective duration on the mob.

I feel the love for THM, but mostly because my casting range for heal spam works like a giant fire hose. Somehow, when I'm on CON I have more difficulty (either being too close when AOEing myself, or staying too far and over-using Sacrifice while forgetting it is draining my HP). I agree our debuffs feel lackluster. I really was looking forward to spamming enfeebling magic until a mob had a dozen or so debuffs and simply collapsed from frustration =D Maybe the class changes will make this reality.

At the moment I think that the Thaumaturge is the most defensive class in the game (solo Dodore). But that's largely thanks to one spell 'Emulate', which holds up even against non-NMs (but strictly enemies who associate strongly with one particular element). I use 'Emulate' on my GLA and it can give me something like 40% damage mitigation versus Gnats, Bombs, Elementals.

The thing is there is not a lot of additional abilities to support a THM in this role, and I really think it's just an accident that we've been given the ability to really handle a lot of damage. First it was Firm Conviction at launch, which really made a THM seem like potentially a Magic-based tanker. And now Emulate, which I'm pretty certain is not long for the nerf...

What THM has going for it is a far and away superior AoE, I think most everyone who under the current system choose to rank both CON and THM more or less equally, mains THM just because of the cone. But I don't think that the cone is enough to really define a class, and we could use a lot of help in that respect. I'll just say that I think Debuffs are all but meaningless on any mob but Notorious Monsters and really stacked leve mobs (5*), and the long cool downs and short durations on them doesn't really jive with the pace of combat.

To be honest, I think THM is the LAST class that needs love. It has a lot attributes that make it unique, the same cannot be said for other classes. I know SE probably has a THM-nerf in the works, but hopefully they do it in a way that doesnt suck the uniqueness out of THM. One can hope!
