if i get the subs paid for people on that that server it would make 50k is a drop in the bucket. if you added another 2 legacy servers they would still be at max.It still kills me that people that have no clue how expensive the hardware behind the game costs say "just buy new servers and shut them down when not needed". Something to handle this kind of concurrent database transactions runs no less than $30,000 US. That's just the server, not any backplanes, racks, power strips, switches, nics etc.. All that and you're running at MINIMUM $50k a pop for a new "world". In the long run if they were 300% sure those servers would be needed and justified there would be no issues just standing up another 80 worlds and waiting to regain the costs. However with any service that is completely dependent on subscription it will wax and wain and eventually dwindle into nothing.
Tell you what if you're willing to foot the bill for well over the worlds average household income so you can have another server send them a check.
Yes adding a legacy server or two... it's not as if you're suddenly going to be able to have your 1.0 character on an entirely new server. They may end up having a free server transfer period, but that isn't going to help you play your character right now.
A lot of it really does depend on if you are NA or not...
I generally log in at 6pm(ish) UK time (7pm GMT/UTC) I rarely have any queue longer than 2 or 3 mins. I almost never see 1017 anymore.
My wife logs in later at 8pm (9pm GMT/UTC) and generally has to spam the 'A' button for about 5-10 mins she gets past 1017, not a huge issue.
I have two PST friends who have given up hope of being able to log in at all and are likely not to subscribe unless it gets resolved in the next couple of days. They are both 5+ year veterans of XI.
i do agree with this. it does really depend on the time zone you are playing. before i go to work i can sign in without any queue ever, but in the evenings it's a disaster. i would do like others and sign in before work and play when i get in, but i don't feel that's fair to others so i won't do it. in the evenings i usually spend at least 30 min trying to get in spamming the enter screen.A lot of it really does depend on if you are NA or not...

I thought the notice by Yoshi did a good job of explaining exactly what they're doing.
I do hope that people here realize that a World is made up of quite a few servers. Which means that the Legacy worlds will almost certainly be getting the same upgrades all the other worlds will be getting. So keep your pants on and stop freaking out.
SOme how I doubt this, conciderign the last tiem you logged out.
Most legacy servrs are packed above allotment, resulting in long cues, or simply world is full try again later, for a good 6 hours.
I must be getting extremely lucky at the login screen, the longest wait I've had (on a legacy server) has been around 10 minutes, even trying to log in during peak hours.
Since many EA players recently kicked out, now I can finally able to log in. I tried 3 times in a row without any error.
HAHAHAHA you kill me Seriphim..... I hate to tell you... but servers that can run that amount of concurrent users do not run in the $50k range... you had it right if you just stuck with the $30k range...It still kills me that people that have no clue how expensive the hardware behind the game costs say "just buy new servers and shut them down when not needed". But... as NONE of us work for SE and are part of them buying servers we ALL can only speculate on what it is that they purchased to handle this kind of load.

Or maybe my luck indeed have something to do with being in GMT+1 timezone, when I log on, US is waking up to go to work and UK is just rushing to the overpacked tube![]()
There is a little Monkey in all of us....
